… and so it begins
Ok, I just started listening on the SW10. Took me only 1 track… it’s good…
Since this is the AS6 thread, I will move further comments here:
Forgive me if I’ve missed this, but has anyone compared the AS-6 to the SW-8?
At least on the SW10-Pro if you use a Finisar 1318 BTL into the SFP data side, a Finisar 1475 BTL will output data to a streamer from the isolated side SFP.
At least to my Rose RSA 130.
I remembered the currently unused LHY SW6 switch in the cupboard, and how good it had been before being usurped by the even better AS6. I also remembered I have a Y power cable somewhere. Not ideal, but I don’t have another separate power run from the regenerator to my pre-station to the left of the main system. OK, let’s scratch that itch with double stacking.
About 10 mins is all it took to hook up the SW6 as the 1st stage switch, a short jumper Cat6 ethernet from SW6 to AS6, and flick the router Xangsane cable over from AS6 to SW6. Four Black Ravioli Big Pads between the two. No need to reboot anything, the Rendu remained happy with the temporary loss of networking.
I am hearing a lower noise floor. From this rises more soundstage ambience and lots of tiny cues, detail hidden deep in the mix. The overall presentation is calmer yet highly detailed. Note decay is the best yet, an outcome of such a low noise floor (for instance, the opening of London Grammar - Hell to the Liars). Glare is down (I noticed this in particular when playing Sheryl Crow - Home).
I thought I had lost dynamics due to this calmness, but no way after listening to Roy Gaines - Stormy Monday Blues.
A fantastic couple of hours’ experimentation.
Nice tower, but not sure about the doorstops, here in Europe they are filled with magnetic scrap
