I noticed Focals price level in the US to have not much mark up compared to Europe. The units sold in the USA, are so big that the economy of scale kicks in and the cost price per unit goes down.
German brand cars are much cheaper in the US then in Europa.
I guess what they do, is to focus on units sold, maybe with some less profit. Then, If those numbers are up, start producing locally to cut tariffs and shipping costs.
Other high end audio brands like the German based T+A let the customers pay all mark ups in the US like PS Audio does in Europe. If your home market is big enough, you can do that and any unit sold abroad is a bonus but does not provide substantial growth.
There are also brands that sell not abroad at all, which in many cases is really a shame.
