Looks like they list at $28,490, since the “down payment” of $2,849 is noted as 10%.
Offering trade in credit of up to $8,550, so I am speculating they can be had, once their hot new item status wears off a bit, for a price anywhere north of around $19,900.
“Using the rear-panel adjustments, FR30 owners can place their speakers where they best fit into the decor with nothing more than the flick of the baffle-step switch, or the turn of the rear tweeter control.”
I hope of PS Audio’s sake they change this copy. Using the word grace twice in three sentences, what does it mean anyway? And Prat? Bashing the competition on price and performance? That might be OK for soap powder, but not for a $28.5k product. A “6 figure offering” to a customer in Thailand is about US$3,000, or a pair of Wilson Alexx V in the UK.
The thing that has always interested me about this speaker is the planar midrange, which really is rare, but there is almost no mention of it and how it defines the sound of the speaker.
Really would like to see more information about the drivers, crossovers, material and bracing of the cabinet.
I like the photo’s. Not my style, but I suspect plenty of people will find it attractive.
Pretty sure they will see fit to change a lot of the language. “A miracle,” though, I always wondered if I’d get to experience one of those.
Kind of a tepid response so far, probably digesting the price. Not sure how “financially within reach of many makes it a miracle” will strike people. That is a whopper of a statement, on many levels. Let’s see what happens
Price is a relative thing, but I do pretty well and it’s not in my financial reach. SabrinaX is $18.5k, but the equivalent of about $27k in the UK due to mark-up and sales tax. So in UK/EU markets FR30 maybe looking at around $41,000, say €37,000 or £33,000. So it might be around the price, of 10% more, than things like Wilson Yvette and Focal Scala Utopia Evo. The FR30 is big with lots of drivers compared to these two, I suppose it really boils down to how good people think they sound and if people like how they look. As it’s way out of my price league, I really have little idea what the other competition is in that price level. Bear in mind no trade-in outside of the USA and low % resale prices.
Just did a search and would also be around the Vivid Giya G3 and B&W 801 D4. Not heard either of them.
I’m sure they priced it where they thought it belonged based on supply and demand or whatever. No issue. Hope it does well. But 6 hours into the launch it’s kinda crickets here yet. Fire up, people! It’s out and available!
Not a speaker for me. Don’t have a dog in the hunt; however, the website shows round 1 (28 Feb) ship date sold out. Seems like something. Lots of folks with lots of money in this hobby.
Paul said a while back the first small batch were already accounted for. I hope a few are going to overseas dealers. I would like to listen to them. The main UK audio show is in February and it is very well attended. Already over 130 brands. No PS Audio yet. https://www.bristolshow.co.uk/exhibitors.lasso
And “financially within reach of many”. By “many” I guess they mean 0.1% of the population?
I can appreciate the tech that went into the speaker and have no problem with the price. But whoever came up with all the wording needs to be looking for a new job.
I don’t understand all the vitriol directed at the ad copy. It’s ad copy, for crying out loud. It’s created to drive the desire to buy by appealing to our emotions as well as our objective thoughts.
Though I do object to the gratuitous comma in the phrase, “Just, great music from your HiFi Family.”
Bravo PS Audio!
Personally I am glad to see Round 1 as a sell-out. I look forward to learning of the early adopters impressions of the FR30 and system synergies.
