New PS Audio Subwoofer

Thinking about adding a Founders sub to my system. Do subs generally sound better plugged into a regenerator or directly into the wall?

IMO. My subs sounded better plugged into the wall over when I used a P20.

Thanks Paul, what’s your thoughts on upgraded power cords for subs. Make a big difference?

Believe it or not I don’t think they make a difference with subs. I would get a decent affordable cable because I believe that almost anything is better than the supplied courtesy cable.

I have a Kimber Ascent PK 10 that’s looking for something to do:rofl:

I can’t believe the speaker cable to the sub matters because there can be almost no current flowing.

I believe that Chris has opined that the audio interconnect to subwoofers isn’t critical.

I would like to add the FR12 sub to my system, wirelessly, share it between the 2 channel stereo and my LG TV. I Have one location that is occupied with the TV soundbar sub. Can the PSA FR12 sub connect to multiple wireless sources?

Chris,

Thanks for this info on the MSO. The update you mentioned to firmware 2.12 for the polarity toggle in the app was fast and easy.

I saw in the app manual eq there is a setting a first, or second order low pass slope, frequency, and a “Q” adjustment. I was not sure what default slope is built in or recommended for the FR-30 to F12 sub match on the low pass filter?

With subwoofers and full-range speakers, you aren’t trying to cross over the subwoofer below the main speakers the way you would with a small bookshelf speaker being high-passed by a crossover in an AV receiver. Instead, the subs and speakers overlap, and how this works best is pretty room- and location-dependent — since the main speakers are essentially acting like additional subwoofers that you don’t have EQ or adjustment control over.

Your main speakers play down to around 25 Hz or so. It wouldn’t make sense to run the subwoofer only below that point. Overlapping the two allows you to fill in the gaps and constructively or destructively interfere with room mode issues you may have. The goal is to use the subs to smooth out what the room is doing to the low end, not just extend it.

This video covers some relevant information on the topic:

WiSA speakers can only connect to one transmitter at a time. It doesn’t have a native mechanism for dual simultaneous links or automatic switching/address sharing between transmitters.

However, you can still connect one subwoofer to two systems Is it possible to run your main 2 channel stereo into the hi-level (speaker level) inputs on the sub? Is is placed near your speakers?

That way, you an also connect with your TV system to the WiSA receiver in the sub. The sub mixes the two signals together in the DSP so it can seamless play both a wired’/wireless signal.

There are a total of 5 connection types (two line level, two speaker level and wireless) and so I think we can figure something out that will work well for you.

Thanks for the quick response Chris. Hardwiring to the sub, at its current location, would be tough. ~50’ run, the boss would not be happy. I’ll have to see if I can find a closer location with an outlet. A possible location would be ~2’ directly in front of the system rack. Think of a capital L . Rotate it 90 degrees. The speakers are along the long side facing out of the el. System is along the short side facing out of the el. Sub is across from the system rack. Clear as mud?

Hmm, I’m not having much luck visualizing things. You aren’t very close to the hifi speakers with your sub? Maybe email out support@psaudio.com address with a few pictures?

If two separately wireless connections is your only options, you could use our transmitter and built-in WiSA receiver for your main system and then maybe a more conventional wireless kit (from a third party) from a subwoofer out of the soundbar/TV setup - running this into one of our line inputs. A bit of a “creative” setup but that could work if you had to.

Good idea,Chris. I’ll snap some pics, send them off. Thx

Does any know if the F12 is a dual purpose subwoofer, that is, support both high-level and analog input at the same time? This would be when used in home theater mode with LFE .1 from your AV processor and high-level input from your speaker amp.

Reading the manual, it seems the input choice is either high-level or analog.

You can use both at the same time but they all get mixed into the dsp so the line level doesn’t have a separate crossover bypass like some subwoofer lfe inputs. Still, you can certainly wire up both and use one for both applications and nested systems

Sorry, but I cannot find the PS Audio App in my Android Play Store. Isn’t it available ?

Found it but not under “PS Audio”. You have to search for “Foundry Control” !

Thanks, Palouse—I didn’t see it at first. And the user manual mentions the “PS Audio” app. That’s why I was confused.
