New Roon Day

Who has tried it? I plan to wait.

MU2 did an auto update on Roon Core in early morning because I forgot to turn it off (Version 2.65).

My music world did not die, the MU2 works with the new Roon just fine. I am not sure, the sound seems to be better than I remembered. Everything is running faster.

Well, I have not really made any deep comparisons yet, but both Maestro and Roon seem to sound great and similar. It is not something made me say “Oh, I am going to cancel my subscription now”. In fact, playing local DSD256 files from MU2 internal SSD may still sound a bit better in my system. But after golfing I am usually just enjoying music.

So, I’m not an MU2 owner/user, but I did a fresh install of MacOS on my Mac mini and installed the latest Roon servicer/core. Things sound a bit better to me now. Same HW, but updated SW. Qobuz via Roon played nicely too.

I had my system running for about three hours, and I have been playing mainly DSD files from SSD of MU2. The SQ has improved more from two hours ago. The music is clearer and the background is much cleaner. The Roon update needs time to settle for sure.

The Roon app has been running flawlessly so far, and it is lighting fast! I love it!

I just did the update. It seems nice, first thing I heard was a bigger soundstage.and it does seem to sound better. This upgrade brings it closer to Maestro but I still prefer Maestro’s overall ease, stage presentation and clarity especially on vocal’s edges. .

I hope Roon keeps upgrading since my lifetime subscription hasn’t run out yet.

I hope it never does!

I upgraded a few hours ago and noticed a performance increase during import/scan when I added 5-6 new CD rips.

My Roon core is very low end compared to most (Intel NUC running R.O.C.K.) and I use the MacOS remote more than the iPad OS or Android versions.

Sound quality on my MU2 improved immediately with an update of the roon app. Sound quality of my MU2 now reminds me of just how good it was when I first borrowed an MU2 from @straightwire

Its definitely snappier in response - I need to listen longer as sonic improvements were not immediately apparent in my case - its a very worth while update though and good work by the Roon team.

Its interface is snappier indeed and the sounds a bit cleaner with wider soundstage, although I admit installing the new version right after coming home from work.
In your opinion, would the upgrade be such that it requires us to recalibrate B4M?

No. The test tones are for the room and the speakers. Better sources just sound better.
New Amp, new Preamp, new DAC need new filters. New software no.
There is no way to involve Roon in making a filter.

I did the update yesterday, and the difference in response time is incredible. This is how Roon should have behaved 8 years ago when I first began using it.

Some have said that it sounds better too, but I’m not understanding how that can be. Bits are bits, right?

Filled with worry, I bit my lip and did the update. It seems to be working. I won’t make any statements on how it is until later. But it is running and I am listening to it. Whew!

Al, I added your password field you asked for,

Bless you!

Since the upgrade to the new Magical Roon update I was lulled into a belief that oh my, after three months of ever-worsening troubles I was finally getting what I had been waiting for. But tonight, Roon got so sad it required a reboot. Bah. Undependable as it has been as the last four months. Sigh.
But with Maestro you hear the bottom two octaves as if you never heard them before. Hmmmm.
