Returning to your original theme, I had my first look last night at a site called Positive Feedback because @Rushton posts reviews there, and saw these isolation things for $1,395 for a set out four.
Made by a very clever German engineer educated in the UK, the principle is a elastomer damping section at the bottom and low contact at the top using ball bearings and a polished steel track.
Which is exactly what is going on in the feet of my new unit, big damping rubber foot and ball bearings at the top. I chose the version with a 4-bolt plate, there are versions with a central M8 bolt. This is not exactly a new product, it’s been around 35 years. A set of four cost me £80, about $100.
Apparently you’re meant to put these things under each component, so it’s $1,395 x lots.
What gets me is that the reviewer also says he needs these under his Devialet 250 Pro because the base is not totally flat. Mine is totally flat, plus it has a rubber insert in each corner to make absolutely sure and for some vibration control. He is called Arnis Balgalvis, has apparently been pontificating on websites for decades.
Sorry, cable lifters have taken care of that
OMG, I forgot, I don’t have the right conditions in my living room to be in this league. Dam, have to get my ISO Acoustics installed.
I have a bit of a technical issue to resolve. My living room is carpeted so I need a base with adjustable (pointed) screws on a base that I can put the isolators on. This way, the base hits the floorboard and the speakers are more stable. A bit of workshop time is required hence my delay.
I believe that is a misscharacterization of some legitimate feedback you have been provided by some very experienced, sincere and well-meaning forum members.
If you take the chip off of your shoulder, your ears will line up better on the plane your speakers project from.
I wish you well on your audio journey and I hope the new speaker stands have a positive impact in your system.
When I used Isoacoustic feet on my Wilsons I used the optional carpet cups underneath them. They accomplished just what you are talking about nicely! Check them out.
I have a plan in mind with a base made out of 3/4" plywood a bit larger than the base of my speaker. The four corners of the base will have an adjustable 1/4" screw with a spiked point on the end. This will allow me to isolate the base from the carpet, plus compensate for out-of-level floors in my old house.
I went down to my workshop in the basement this afternoon and realized I had vacuumed my mess from the last time I was down there. Then I remembered my wife telling me the day before that there was no heat coming out of the dryer so I had to tear that apart.
I am determined to do my bases this week and will be sure to provide pictures of my endeavor. Fingers crossed !
I recently moved the washing machine (front load auto) from the garage to the kitchen. Big smiles (we all use it, but SWMBO doesn’t like going out into the cold garage in the winter which is fair).
Worth doing.
Only taken me 16 years to get to it
This morning, I re-arranged the 3 IsoAcoustics footers underneath my streamer from a forward pointing triangle to a backward point triangle just for giggles. Didn’t expect to hear any change, but to my surprise the backward pointing configuration made the low end loose and lost a lot of bass “league” compared to the other way around.
It’s not even subtle. Just to make sure I wasn’t imagining it, I re-arranged the feet couple more times just to confirm… yep, it’s a big difference in the mid bass region.
I’ve never been in a CT scan machine, but if I ever do, I’d make sure the ask the tech to show me that 'switch" in my head.
I think a number of reviewers are beholden to their patrons. Theres a specific reviewer at Stereophile that in his reviews almost always compares his very very expensive “reference “ system to what ever he’s reviewing. Always mentioning his Wilson’s, and D’Agostino amps as if he’s plugging them as a quid pro quo for some kind of super deal or freebie loan. Of course it is pointless to compare a $8000. amp to $40k of separates. We the reader get very little from these reviews.
My wife cursed me daily between 1997 and 2021 because the washer and dryer were outside the kitchen door. Even when the weather was warm, she still cursed. We rebuilt the house and she now has a laundry room through a door from the kitchen. Last week there was a leak, water everywhere, my plumber was round in 15 minutes. Turns out she’d opened a 1L bottle of tonic water and put it in the fridge upside down with the top not screwed on. Bought a new washing machine and dryer because the old ones were leaking and puffing out steam. Did the washing for the first time in my life. She loves the Miele app. All is good.
Fremer was the worst. I read about 3 of his reviews, he’d but a $2,000 component in his $500,000 system and then ramble on about his record collection for pages … yeah, yeah, yeah. He must have had a contract that excluded his copy from editorial scrutiny. There are reviewers who put things in price/performance appropriate systems.
