Octave Records PS Audio

Looks like your order made it into the second batch of shipments. We are hoping to fulfill those within the next week or two, depending when we get them cleared through customs.

Customs? From Boulder to Atlanta  ?

No, getting them to Boulder. We don’t have the discs to ship yet.

I agree, 2/10 for Music. I listen to each track for like 30 sec and will probably won’t ever listen to them again. A for effort. Hopefully we get a more musical tracks next time.

You made it 20 seconds longer than I could manage.

I mentioned above that I listened to the previews on the website and was not interested in the music. I was curious as to the sound quality, even without a DSD player. To be honest, I’m never going to buy an album purely on sound quality. I buy because I want to listen to the music.

I still buy downloads because in the UK we still have three major record labels, mostly classical, that are not on streaming platforms. They are Hyperion, Linn and Naim. There may well be others. I buy from Hyperion (6 in the last week) because they have artists I hear live regularly. Linn make fantastic quality recordings with a great roster of international artists, particularly in Baroque, and Naim do all sorts of stuff like Sons of Kemet.

A record label is about the artist roster. The last download I bought was the Takacs Quartet, based in Boulder, University of Colorado, but who record and play regularly in London. I was meant to see them in May. They were with Decca, but signed with little Hyperion and their first disc about 15 years ago was a massive success.

They’ve gone from strength to strength as recording artists and I’ve bought most of their output, on CD then downloads.

I appreciate this Grusin album was a first outing, it will be interesting to see who they can contract to record so that a wider audience will buy downloads on a regular basis.

Have their Beethoven, Schubert and Smetana albums…nice.

I received the monthly PSA Newsletter today where it was announced that the Grusin album is now available for download. There are download options for 192/24, 96/24 and DSD. I can’t find anywhere on the page that says what level of resolution in DSD this is. I’m limited to DSD64 (due to Bridge). Can anyone tell me what DSD resolution this is before I spend money on it?

I’m 99% sure it’s DSD64. Standby for a 100% sure answer.

Just got word. I’m 100% sure it’s DSD64!

Thank you. You guys might want to add that info to the website.

DSD64 is the same as the SACD. I find the files sound even better than the SACD because I have a superior system playing files than my DMP.

I purchased the download, but was very disappointed about the low-res cover, only 200x200. Is it possible to get a hi-res cover of ā€œOut Of Thin Airā€? Looks probably much better on my iPad with ROON.

Good call and thank you. We have updated the website product page to reflect that.

Not that I have capacity to play either SACD or DSD, but is there any reason why a 2.8Mhz 1-bit data file sound any different whether taken from a disc or from a stream?

Try this one instead

Much better. Thanks!

It isn’t my favorite kind of music, but it did a damn good job of showcasing the quality of sound that Gus will give us. I would love Octave to do a blues piano, maybe Boogie Woogie.

Some universally accepted good tunes on a Cello would be nice too.

Love the Cello Idea!
