Thank you!
Mongo,
Thank you. I will take you up on your request. I have just scanned over some of the lists and there looks to be a lot of great music I am never heard.
Regards,
analog
Wow, what a great thread, glad it got revived from last summer. Here are some of my favorites
Lou Reed - Walk on the Wild Side.
Roxy Music - If There is Something (this song is really just completely spellbinding to me, the way the sax comes in mid song. While this is not especially well recorded, still unbelievable)
Herbie Hancock - Butterfly (another beefy sax track)
Kraftwerk - side B of TEE.
Talking Heads - Girlfriend (while I think Bernie Worrell was a full member of the band at this point, this is the only song he got a writing credit for)
Donald Byrd - all of Places and Spaces, but especially the track Dominos. (Just picked up the Blue Note ‘audiophile’ 180g remaster and I’m very impressed)
I wonder who else feels this way, but it is such a tragedy that some of the greatest music ever made was just so poorly recorded, the Velvet Underground and Funkadelic being prime examples. Hard to think of two bands that were more influential to popular and unpopular music who have albums that sound like they where recorded on construction paper, I know remastering can help some, but Funkadelic hasn’t even gotten that treatment yet.
Def gonna spend some time digging into everyone’s recs this weekend.
I am a big Funkadelic fan too. Most of their recording quality sucks but the music is so good.
I thought this list was meant to be about recording quality.
A well recorded Jazz Album is Erik Truffaz, Bending New Corners. I tent to play Sweet Mercy (first track on my CD).
Been listening to this album (SACD) constantly for a week now. The content and the quality are both outstanding.
Bob James Trio ~ Feel Like Making Live!
Halfway through my first listen to her and the album and I have to completely agree. Outstanding.
Sir Nose Devoid Of Funk: Time to do the dance. George Clinton for Ambassador Of Funk!

Tracks with decent snare drum whacks. I have the CDs of these but they’re also on Spotify (free):
Play these loud!
Mighty Sam McLain, Sledgehammer Soul & Down Home Blues - tracks “They Call Me Mighty” and “If You Could See”
The James Blood Ulmer Blues Experience - track “Crying”
St. James Infirmary - The Stimulators on Voodoo Swing
Be my husband - Morgan James on Morgan James Live
Treaty - Leonard Cohen on You Want it Darker
So many roads - Ronnie Earl & the Broadcasters on The Luckiest Man
Märk hur vår skugga - Imperiet on Synd
Flame - Norah Jones on Late Night Jones
Hoist the Colours - Malinda on Hoist the Colours (EP)
Foy Vance - You Get to Me on Muscles from Shoals
Nina Simone - No Woman No Cry on The Montreux Years (Live)
KODO - Lion, for taiko assembly on Heartbeat Kodo 25th anniversary
I really dig The Stimulators live recordings. Not everyone’s cup of tea, but I think the music is fun and excellently recorded, especially on the “Live at Kunstalon” album.
Great choice.
