Outdoor Grilling/Smoking

For the outdoor cooking fans - Considering a stick-burner offset from Oklahoma Joe’s and looking for user experience—how do they hold up in terms of build quality, heat retention, and overall operation? Also open to recommendations for other offset smoker manufacturers with nationwide availability.

Also thinking it would be awesome to start a dedicated outdoor grilling/smoking discussion section if there’s enough interest.

Your post is a nice start for an outdoor grilling/smoking discussion.

Hopefully you will get takers.

I’ve had a Joe’s for several years. I love it.

From a North Carolina guy.

Hey thanks Rob. I’m looking at a Highland offset model right now that’s on sale. I have a big Traeger pellet smoker, but really miss the flavor of a stick burner.

For anyone with Stealth Cable tastes and budget, the grill/smoker products from Komodo Kamado may be of interest. In their words, it’s “the ultimate over-built and over-engineered Kamado grill and smoker”. My Kamado Joe aspires to be one of these when it grows up.

I think you’d be safe getting one. There are a few new features that I don’t have on mine, like a removable ash pan, tool hooks, and rubber wheels.

Go for it!

I agree, working on the wife now

Shouldn’t be too hard. Tell her that you’ll make dinner.

Most of my output is pork butt/shoulder, two at a time. We have it for dinner the first night, then package the rest and freeze it. It’s good for 7-9 dinners, usually.

I have a killer recipe from Michael Ruhlman (French Laundry), if anyone’s interested.
