Paul- If you don't want our business anymore-just say so

I have no piece of electronic equipment, furniture, appliance, etc that has not been discontinued and/or replaced with ‘new and improved’

Part of what competition means

Like others, I use Firefox (137.0.2). I use it on both an iMac and the cheapest Macbook, each running the most recent MacOS, and I’m not getting any messages that suggest forum access is ending.

I understand that’s probably the least of the OP’s concerns, though. The issue of continual product development and eventual result of orphaning older tech is kind of a constant in this industry, as it is in most others. Granted, it hurts a little more when the goods are expensive to begin with.

I wish I could say it doesn’t bother me, but it does, a bit. I bought what I could afford at the end of my career, with the knowledge that further upgrades will be unlikely, and certainly few. So I try not to dwell on it, and instead take pleasure in what I have, hoping it outlives me.

I understand how you feel. But maybe, try to grow past it. It isn’t always about getting the latest and greatest. We grow, company grow, people’s circumstances change. Nothing hold still on earth, nothing. It’s a journey, and I’m still learning not to do the “MY PRECIOUSSSS” with a lot things in file. Enjoy your day.

I understand how angry some are, though I am not myself. Though if I had purchased my DS2 a few months ago with the promise of multiple upgrades, and then learned there would be none…the listing in the PS Shop section still lists the DS2 with promises of multiple upgrades…

It would’ve been nice if the DSD MkII was at least discounted a few months before being axed. That would’ve given those considering purchasing one a hint that it was about to be replaced. It would’ve also helped to soften the blow for those who recenetly purchased the companies flagship DAC, knowing that at least they got a discount on the DAC they believed had a longer lifespan with future updates, before being replaced by a new DAC at close to the same price.

Do yourself a HUGE favor: Apple Mac mini MU9E3LL/A (Late 2024) Desktop Computer; Apple M4 10-Core CPU; 16GB Unified Memory; 512GB Solid State Drive; - Micro Center

Or… if you are okay spending a bit more and want a machine that runs very, very cool: Apple Mac Studio MU963LL/A (Early 2025) Desktop Computer; Apple M4 Max 14-Core CPU; 36GB Unified Memory; 512GB Solid State - Micro Center

I have the M2 Max Studio and that M4 mini - the latter just for hosting BACCH4Mac and my DSP software / hardware for my home theater processor. You can’t go wrong with either.

To @krelldog, I say, maybe try not to view audio equipment like a monetary investment; just listen and enjoy the music.

To @RonP, I say, yes there are still windows.

Speaking of enjoying music and windows, the other night I was cranking “It’s a Long Way to the Top (If You Wanna Rock ‘n’ Roll)” by AC/DC and my neighbor was enjoying it so much that he threw a brick through my window so he could hear it better.

I have an old Mac and OS Catalina 10.15.7 is the highest it gets. So, I will not be able to get on this forum anymore until I get a new one (have no idea when that will be).

what exactly is the change in browsers that will stop someone from accessing this forum?

Don’t worry, you soon will on your win 10 machines come the autumn / fall

If you bought a new Directstream 2, your lying if you don’t admit that Ted’s updates were a huge perk. I wouldn’t call it future proof, but it certainly gave you a piece of mind for years to come.

PS Audio’s marketing ploy on both the Directstream 1 and 2 was Ted’s continued software updates. Which is why I ultimately bought both the 1 and 2. Who wouldn’t want a DAC that just keeps getting better. This wasn’t my pipe dream, this was the advertised sales pitch for both units.

I was very happy with my Directstream 1, but knew the value would plummet once the Directstream 2 was out, and it did. I bought the Directstream 1 for around 3K used, and it bottomed out around 1500.00 or less. Thats ridiculous on a 6K component. Especially since it was a fantastic DAC.

Pulling the plug after just 2 updates is so disingenuous. All the hype, Paul’s Mister Rogers ish line of crap. All you fanboys grow a spine. This is complete BS. Just some more PS Audio Bait and Switch.

I run Windows XP on an old PC in my garage for arcade games and looking up parts and schematics. I have installed a working version of Chrome browser and haven’t had any problems using the interwebs… This whole thing about windows 10 “expiring” is market-speak to get people to buy new computers and OS versions. Yes, support and development from Micro$oft for Wind 10 is ending, but the OS is still going to keep running as it has. Unless you change your hardware, the drivers you now have will still work, and the browser you now run will still operate for most of the websites out there. The OS does not expire.

You’ve more than adequately expressed this same opinion multiple times. At this point, repeating it is not going to change the policy nor the opinions of others. It is starting to sound more like a tantrum than an argument.

The Mount Blue Sky update should be the last update that is needed. You have a fantastic DAC.
I have a Grimm MU2 DAC, and you know how many updates have been made? ZERO.
You know how many updates are planned for the new PMG DAC? ZERO.
