Perhaps this is something you already knew, but the format of the USB drive as well as the placement of the FW file in the root of the USB has been mentioned as vital for success. I don’t remember the specifics but a forum search should reveal that info. Good luck.

My understanding is that the USB drive should be freshly formatted in FAT32, with a single file "pmg_sacd_v2.3.0.bin ".

I think my PMG SACD transport is defective, as I repeated the procedure without any luck.

I even tried a variation, powering off the rocker switch first, inserting the USB key, then flipping the rocker switch ON.

Unfortunately, the front display went through the disc reading sequence, displaying the word “reading”, followed by “no disc”, and did not enter the FW update procedure.

Hmm, I wonder what I can do. Team PS Audio - any suggestions? Should I do a factory reset?

Let me disconnect all of the output cables, and repeat. Fingers crossed!

My recommendation would be to call PS Audio tech support so they can walk you through the update process. Either you’ll be successful or they’ll conclude your unit has a defect and will coordinate a repair/replacement. I suspect you’ll get to a resolution faster this way than hoping they catch your post and respond. In any event good luck!

This worked!

  1. all of the digital signal cables were removed, as a preparatory measure; in my case, there were three connections to my MSB Technology Sentinel DAC’s Digital Director: BNC coax, AES/EBU, and I2S/HDMI.

  2. the unit was powered back on, to start; the front panel showed the drive going through its routine

  3. the front panel square logo button was pressed to put the unit on standby

  4. the USB drive was inserted, then the rear power rocker switch was powered off, and powered back on after ~15 seconds

  5. the front panel showed the drive going through its routine, declaring “no disc”

  6. via the front panel, I navigated to the command “factory reset”, and proceeded to hit GO

  7. the display darkened, then the logo square proceeded to flash nearly a dozen times, its perimeter backlit-illuminated with green LEDs

  8. settings confirmed that the FW is now v2.3.0

PS Audio should revise its User’s Manual to incorporate this alternative method!
