Poor sound occasionally in summer on hot days

swing bin speakers look familiar. :slightly_smiling_face: Shahinian ARCs.
rectangular box speakers… Gilbert Briggs designed ?

Yeah - I get it. They look like a bed of nails - which would be cruel. In fact, the plastic is soft and flexible. Just enough to get their attention😊.

Obviously, there appears a number of ways to skin that… oh wait…

Nah - my trusty old Richard Allen Pavanes - had 'em for years (though I’ve changed the crossover to modern components).
They are not that good, but look the part, and I use them on Sundays to keep them from seizing up.

They do have a nice midrange, and they don’t annoy the neighbours as no real deep bass.

Built in 1972 and all original all paper cone / paper surround (even the tweeter) drivers

My Hales Transcendence 5 speakers which are 26 years old and have had their crossover parts upgraded 23 years ago and have had Seas Millennium tweeters installed are still glorious.

I did at one point consider swapping the cone tweeters for a pair of Seas domes same as used in my other “naff but fun to play with” speakers (Monitor Audio R352s, or they were once, not much original left in those now).

…but in the end I decided to keep them “vintage” partly because I’m lucky enough to have the Shahinian Arcs now, and they blow everything else away anyways

I had heavy vinyl covers made to cover a pair of Vandersteen model 3 speakers I owned years ago after I caught my cat sitting on top of one of the speakers. They remained covered at all times unless I was in the room listening.
I slept much better at night.
