Poor sound occasionally in summer on hot days

Does anyone notice occasional noisy poor sound during hot days in the summer? I notice this and wonder if it could be caused by other people’s air conditioners and fans etc on the ac grid. I find that I mostly get good sound but I notice this phenomenon occasionally in the summer on very hot days. Does anyone else notice this?

See anything ever written on the essential virtues of PS Audio regenerators.

I have read much about the PS Audio regenerators. Mostly good. I have a Keces balanced power conditioner which I find makes a nice improvement at a fraction of the cost of a regenerator. All the same I get the occasional noise from the ac grid in the summer on hot days. For the couple of minutes of noise I experienced yesterday I had many hours of excellent sound. I see that I have asked the question of noise on hot summer days a few years ago and many mentioned the benefits of a PS Audio power regenerator.Perhaps one day I may try one if funds permit.

Your earlier thread on the topic:

likely due to noisy power from everyone’s air conditioning in your neighborhood

I have found the Puritan power conditioner remarkable (about $2,400 US); many here who spent more for the Gryphon PowerZone report even better results.

I can vouch for the Puritan. I had an Audition Adept line conditioner before purchasing the Puritan, and although it made an improvement in the sound, there was a distinct difference between night time and day time listening. The Puritan not only sounded way better than the Audition, but there’s hardly a detectable difference between day time and night time listening now.

I have nothing to compare my Keces IQRP 3600 with but I too notice that my daytime and nighttime listening equally pleasant as well. I enjoy the Keces and I have read and heard that it is supposed to be a good conditioner. I am enjoying it.

My occasional reminder that speakers tend to be made of wood and paper, both of which are very sensitive to heat and especially humidity.
Noticeably makes a difference here on very humid days.
SO it may not (only) be the power grid being dirty

Indeed the Puritan helps, and the Gryphon is a game changer. Just my opinion. The P15 I had was great, but unnecessary with my Pass Labs Amp.

That’s certainly true, particularly if you don’t have air-conditioning. (Where I live in upstate New York has been unusually hot and humid so far in July, with dewpoints around 70 most days — tropical!) You could also invest in a pair of Magnepans; those big sheets of Mylar are dimensionally stable. :smiling_face_with_sunglasses:

Indeed. Then there’s the human condition, one’s ear canals become swollen because of an increase in blood pressure due to a combination of heat and humidity. Wet and sticky ear canals severely screw with one’s music enjoyment!

First chuckle of the day here, Dirk!
Wet, sticky ear canals—hilarious.

That’s what the actress/singer said to the ENT doctor…!

false medicine creeping in here

It makes sense that the weather would effect one’s aural physiology. I notice that after a hot steamy shower that music sounds better. As to the humidity effecting sound. I suppose possibly.

which also happens when the cats try and dance on a turntable…

edit - note covers on TT and valuable speaker!(sounds off atm due to headache)

This product, strategically placed, is an effective deterrent for pets, young children or anything you want to keep from getting too close to your equipment. Just be careful not to step on them yourself (much like stepping on a Lego piece😩)

My cat would just jump over it.

Make sure your tetanus shot is up to date!

Harsh (and anyway, they know where I keep my headphones *)…

I prefer this kinda method (though I was going to pass them off as “specialist diffusion devices” ):

Rosa seems to be chilling rather than climbing tonight
