Cant hurt! Distraction is one of the keys to magic.
From the Audioquest webpage at the link provided: Note: AudioQuest Tornado/Source AC power cable is not appropriate for use with AC power conditioners, power regenerators, AC isolation transformers, AC battery back-up devices, as well as any power amplifier, powered sub-woofer, powered loudspeaker, powered receiver, or integrated amplifier (whether tube, solid state or digital switching). These products will require greater RMS and transient current capacity. In extreme instances, they could suffer diminished performance and/or present an electrical danger by exceeding the AudioQuest Dragon/Source AC power cableâs maximum current capacity. For those applications, we highly recommend selecting the AudioQuestâs Dragon/High-Current AC power cable.
Based on this, I personally would stay away from this power cable. Especially when the picture shows a 20 amp connector option.
I personally would stay away from this power cable.
You personally should stay away from this power cable.
Why?
I just wouldnât want a power cable that comes with a warning that it shouldnât be used with higher current components. Even a basic power cord that comes with a power amp or subwoofer doesnât present an electrical danger.
I can see that. I thought that was strange. But that said, it is specifically marketed for a constant current source device.
That is the strangest warning on a cable I have ever seen. Weird. We just auditioned the Audioquest Dragon power cables in MR2 and was knocked out with the sound quality improvement over the AC12. Wow.
Aye they may as well say âthis power cable should not be used on a y equipment that requires powerâ
Would be a lot easier if they just rated it at 5 amps prominently!
What is MR2?
I assume music room number 2.
Audioquest does have a separate High Current version, but I did not find a current rating on either version.
At the retail price, I would hope that it excelled at itâs purpose.
Sorry. Shorthand for Music Room 2
Exactly. The one with the Infinity IRSV
Think itâs a Toyota.
Hi Paul I am looking for a good power cable for the BHK 250 power amp that I ordered. I was considering a AC12, but a read that you prefer a Audioquest Dragon or - if that wpuld be a little to expensive - the Audioquest Thunder. I learned that prior to the Dragon, in your reference systemen you use the AC 12. Would you prefer the Thunder to the AC12 for my BHK 250
I would. I have switched everything over to the AQ power cables. They really are quite good.
Excellent talk by Caelin Gabriel, founder of Shunyata about power and technical issues with power delivery and impacts that cabling makes: https://youtu.be/MpAsUgv24jc
I own a number of Shunyataâs products (power, speaker, IC, USB) and have found them to be extremely compelling at every price point.
@david-bevin-2 - me tooâŠ
SRâs test data and technical papers have been available for over a year on their website. The papers were a good read.
