I am in the UK and bought a PS Audio Power Plant 10 yesterday from a local man and when I turned it on immediately I heard some some but noticeable hum noise from the Power Plant itself. I wonder if it is fan noise? But the fan should operate immediately?
How to open up the Power Plant 10 to see if it has a fan and if the fan is the source of noise? Thank you for advice.
As I recall, the P5 and P12 (regenerators that are lower down in the product range) have fans, but not the P10 and similar models. If my memory is wrong, I’m sure someone will correct me.
If the previous owner didn’t give you a manual, you can download one from the Support tab here in the forum – this will give you lots of interesting info.
The P10 does not have a fan. My P10 does, on occasion, mechanically hum. While I have not absolutely confirmed it, my thought is it is DC on the powerline. I’m in the U.S., not sure if DC is a problem in the UK, but I just live with it. The other possibility is the transformer has loosened. You might be able to check this by trying to spin the “bolt” on the bottom plate. More likely you will have to open it up. Here’s a link to a forum thread on removing the top. There may be other threads that discuss this better, but this one came up first.
