It will not be Roon Ready. You can use it as a Roon endpoint.
So you are saying no software comes with it?
@aangen I wonder if you might be kidding around again?! Certainly comes with no app, hence my BYOA comment.
@stevensegal I guess it is still past time for PSA Audio to clarify RAAT etc matters etc. But, yeah, you are right, I only see “endpoint” in the PS Audio comments above.
I encourage PS Audio team to ask Al to write the official user manual of the AirLens! I would buy it as my favorite book of the year! Preface by Vince, of course!
PS Audio started out making a server/streamer with I2S output as Paul doesn’t like usb, and Roon Ready might have been assumed. The sever went, then the streamer, now it’s an I2S switch and it turns out according to Ted that the Mk2 DAC should be just as good with usb. Go figure.
I think Lizz Truss should write the manual. It will be short, will take no more than 8 minutes to read and have 4 FAQs, followed by an instruction to run out of the room.
Thank you.
I am as confused as you are. Go figure. I wish PS Audio would communicate clearer messaging.
no doubt, i am a bit confused on the app also
this is the greatest thread on the forum, bar none
This thread needs a theme song.
I think we need to put this to a vote. I put forth as candidate: Yello Waba Duba. I think it is more age appropriate while going into the digital future without going round in circles (despite my forum name and what happens here): Yello - Waba Duba (Official Video) - YouTube
PS: Have this in ATMOS too
Your being very clear on your Delivery Sir…
Speaking as a fellow Brit in despair.
I’ve dabbled in building music servers commercially,
And from experience can say a lot of the time simpler is better?
Less plumbing to overstuff the Drain (credit to Scotty I think…)
It’s actually pretty simple (as I understand things); granted that there have been many turns and twists along the way.
People like me who use a Bridge II can replace it with an AirLens, gaining (we think) better overall sound quality plus the ability to play DSD >64. I’ve been waiting a long time for the latter. New purchasers of a DS DAC who have music stored on a NAS or similar can also benefit.
Those who have music fed via USB won’t need an AirLens, particularly if they upgrade to a DS Mk II. I don’t know anything about playing music over WiFi, but it might be possible to use the AirLens’s WiFi capability to eliminate a USB connection, perhaps along with extra “USB cleanup” box(es). Other people can speak to this.
Software may be an issue for some. I used to run the Linn app (Kazoo? I can never keep all those K’s straight) and also could use others such as Lumin. Unfortunately, after upgrading my Synology operating system to ver. 7, I no longer can. So I am stuck with MconnectControl, which is functional but I don’t love it. If I switched from iPad to an Android tablet, I could use BubbleUPNP. it is an excellent piece of software but I don’t trust Google (or Alphabet or whatever their name is) anywhere near my data. For those on Android, it is the best AFAIK.
Yep, that describes the non-Roon weakness of the AirLens. The picture above of the Bluesound Node sitting on top of the AirLens is telling. Mconnect and BubbleUPnP do not compare with the Bluesound app. And you can attach an SSD to the back of a Node via USB, but not to an AirLens. But, yeah, for us weirdos, the lack of Bluesound support for DSD formats and general lack of that extra audiophile quality mean that it won’t do either. PS. Tidal Connect is good though, based on PS Audio posts.
When I acquired my Euphony Summus 2 streamer, I could not make it work with Bridge2. It was because Bridge2 could not recognize Stylus OS from Euphony, I think. Therefore it is unlikely It will work with AirLens sinice it is really a Bridge3.
My choice is either use Mconnect with AirLens without Euphony, or use Stylus with Euphony without AirLens. That is tough choice.
