Thank You! I have read many articles about MQA over the years, but none as clear and succinct as yours.
That’s why I said it’s a different version and the other version don’t support internet radio. I am using one of those versions with an iFi Zen Stream. You don’t need anything to support Spotifiy as it has it’s own Connect software.
Hi @ipeverywhere, thanks for sharing so much – this is a huge contribution to how MQA works!
On the DS1/Bridge II a blue light does appear for me in Roon when a MQA recording is processed. Sometimes a green light.
Thanks also for bringing out how the Bridge II does a full unfold. Maybe that’s what @paul has in mind when he’s said the AirLens will unfold MQA?
Tidal for sure does more than red book. Much is MQA encoded. It has Atmos as well.
@dawkinsj Oooh, I do like that iFi Zen Stream, also because it supports HQPlayer. Only wish it had an AES output. Could use it with a Bricasti DAC.
@brian.fitterman Naja, but the point was that the cheaper Tidal subscriptions do not come with all that!
Ahh. Yes have to pay to play.
Though it costs a bit more the Neo Stream would fit the bill and it comes with the upgraded power supply. In the system I use it in the Zen Stream in combination with the Aqua La Voce S3 does a great job.
@Paul, Ted just said in a DS MK2 thread that part of the integration between the DS and the PST is an I2C channel on the HDMI connector, which I imagine to be how you get your handshaking done for SACD playback licensing with that combo. I also suspect it might come into play with MQA support between the AirLens and DAC, depending on what your recent comment re that topic actually means.
Does the AirLens actually have I2C capability on the HDMI connector for purposes such as this?
If so… could we please please please have support for remote DAC volume control (and status reporting in the other direction) with Roon etc, and the huge one for me in particular would be to relay play/pause/skip IR commands received by the DAC back via the AirLens to control the stream from Roon?
Ted said the DAC could support it, it’s just a question of the AirLens having the I2C hardware and then it’s a software feature. ![]()
I agree! Being able to pause, stop, skip tracks via the remote on the Bridge II/DS1 is so much quicker than having to open up the app to do the same. Would love to have this functionality continue in the AirLens.
I believe he actually said those lines are available on a HDMI cable, doesn’t mean they are in use and hooked up inside PSA gear…
Ted said, “In principle it’s supported by the Mk II hardware and implementable in software”
Fairy nuff ![]()
Maybe they will get the volume option too then!
@jamesh - Perhaps another reason for Roon Ready certification.
I have that on my DCS DAC and I love it.
My understanding is that the MQA filter does not need to be the last filter. Since the DS filter is known, the matching MQA filter can be implemented in the BridgeII and give full MQA as the result in the DS.
The DS was not MQA compatible. Only the Bridge II was and it was an add-on board whose MQA licensing fee was paid by it’s manufacturer not PSA. The Bridge II and the AirLens have nothing in common other than the PSA name on them.
Well they both allow Ethernet to be useful.
Let’s hope both end up sharing the accolade of being recommended by The Absolute Sound as one of the best in class!
Really nice to see the Bridge II in amongst TAS’s recommended components for November - perhaps the last hurrah for the Bridge II before the AirLens ups the game again ![]()
Any info as to when this might be released?
Is thinking in 2023?
We haven’t heard anything definitive. Hopefully shortly after the MKII.
