PS Audio AirLens

My wife’s going to Madeira next week for 5 days of yoga.
I suppose you can call that volcanic isolation.

Paul is never going release this product unless the number of posts gets to a reasonable level of interest, and there’s been nothing for 3 days.

So here’s confirmation for Innuos users that the official uPnP configuration (there was always a backdoor switch in Sense v2) works nicely and I presume will do so with AirLens.

You can enable or disable as many uPnP devices as you like.

I read somewhere yesterday on the forums that the AL is on the back burner now for like 6 to 9 months and can not find it now. Did Paul come out with a statement? Is this true?

He said a few things. 1) It’s delayed again; 2) There is a stopgap product re-using the Bridge2 that he estimates for March (2023 I assume though not specified, take estimates with grain of salt, obviously); 3) Airlens galvanic isolation doesn’t help Mk2 on a sound quality basis because Mk2 isolation already providing that feature.

It’s the last one that should raise the most eyebrows, IMO. Remember back when Al predicted the AL would never be released (this was around the time that a Paul video said the AL was already released and “doing very well” in the market)? It was an amazingly hot take at the time. Time will tell…

Wait, when did Paul say this? I mean what date? Because I’ve been waiting for it and if it’s still 6-9 months I might go with something else.

I think yesterday. In another thread on the forum (one of the Mk2 threads). I’m not sure which one. Somebody will know. James actually said the delay was board related but then Paul said parts related. If you search Paul’s posts you’ll see it and same thread James’ earlier comment.

Oh crap. :poop:

It was in the “Bridge 2.5?” thread actually

I did say it was delayed but I don’t know by how much. The danged parts pandemic is really rearing its ugly head more than anyone imagined. I hope to have some better idea next week or the week after.

Thanks for the update.

Thanks for replying Paul and i am sure you will keep us all updated. In the mean time i am enjoying the heck out of the MK2. What an amazing product!

What a bummer

Thanks for this information. I was able to get my Zenith Mk 3 to find my HiFi Rose 250B streamer and I am now streaming through the HiFi Rose. I have both of them plugged directly into the DS DAC Mk II (Zenith by USB and Rose by AES/EBU). That’s going to be another round of sound quality comparison for another day.

Meanwhile, the plus side is that the screen on the HiFi Rose is displaying the cover art, song title and artist. The zenith does not have any display on it and you have to use the Sense app to see any information.

Screens are very 20th century and not much use with classical and when your hifi is in a corner in a cabinet with a door. I used the RJ45 output when I used my Zen Mk3 with Roon. Galvanic isolation and all that. With Sense that was no longer possible, no reason why, they said you have to use USB. It is very well implemented with its own LPS and I’ve used it ever since Sense was released. Haven’t given it a second thought.

The irony is that Ted is very happy with the usb and there are a various good usb streamers like Innuos. Further irony, Innuos seem to have parts or production issues of their own, but apparently stocks are imminent. The PULSEmini at $1,250 seems an absolute steal given the Sense software, runs off a 9-24v DC power supply.

Good comments on usb here.

I used an Auralic Aries for 3 or 4 years via usb, Auralic is a usb-optimised brand and I loved their Lightning app.

Now I am curious as to what you are using to stream music to other rooms? I might be interested in finding a powered speaker with internet/UPNP support for streaming to other rooms.

It’s a product currently only available in the UK. It is also Roon Ready (I have 10 Roon zones) and has Amazon HD onboard, along with the usuals (Apple, Airplay, Tidal, Spotify etc.). They brought in the top technical guy from Naim and implemented Roon Ready with certification inside 6 months, which must be a record.

Designed by a couple of industry veterans, they pack in a vast amount of tech, hardware and software, several patented elements, and can sell it for under $500 per unit. Puts much of the hifi industry to shame.

I actually bought it primarily as a lighting system, it was launched a week after my builders arrived in May 2021.

There should be a USA release sometime soon, it was a soft launch in the UK.

Indeed, displays are not much use in a cabinet.

My NAD M33 sits in an open rack and I love its display. Like the Rose you can configure it to switch to display VU meters after displaying the cover art or input channel logo. You can set that individually for each input channel.

So on the phono input for my turntable it shows VU meters. But for AirPlay and BluOS streaming it shows the cover art, artist name and song title.

I just enjoy that a lot.

Thanks to you, @brian.fitterman and @vkennedy61, I am now the happy owner of an Intel NUC i7 running Roon ROCK. Setup was pretty straightforward, although at one point I had four different screens in play as I added a missing codec, checked network settings, etc. It quickly found my NAS and – much to my delight – my good old Bryston BDP-1, which acts as a Roon Bridge to my PS Audio DS1.
I’m planning to order the DS2 before the sale ends next week, and then will move the Bryston to my secondary system and go USB direct from the NUC to the DS2.
Again, thanks for the guidance!
