PS Audio AirLens

Thanks for sharing the screen shot of the AirLens in action! Will be great to have native DSD and MQA capacity back, something I lost in trading in the DS1 with its Bridge. Really looking forward to seeing and hearing the AirLens in action :grinning:

@aaronm, does this version of MConnect with the Airlens offer TuneIn Radio?

Your wish is a little late. Maybe a year ago it would have been a smart move. Now they have hardware and I’m sure significant commitments for parts such that they can’t stop moving forward. We should just wait to see what the beta testers think of it.

Tony

If the Airlens uses the same Conversdigital hardware dedicated version of MConnect as the Bridge did then it will include whatever internet radio provider they have a contract with now.

Hi,

I’d like to ask for clarification on the audio specs of the PS Audio Airlens and DS mkii. The published specs of the Airlens is that it will reproduce PCM up to 384KHz/32 and native DSD up to DSD256 through i2s. The DS mkii reproduces PCM up to 24 bits at 705.6 and DSD256 through i2s and USB. Do these specs indicate that the 2 devices match, and that they will allow users to get the full benefit of the 2 devices?

I’m trying to understand if the differences in the published specs have any meaningful impact and whether the 2 devices achieve full synergy so as to get the most out of both units.

Thanks in advance for any insights.

Thanks all the response and the the screen shot!

Can’t wait to hear how the MKI sounds without the Bridge II inside.

You will be surprised how good Bridge II sounds once treated with the 3M absorber (AB7050HF) on the key chips. They are 90% of what my Auralic Aries G2 can reproduce (10x the cost). Without the 3M absorber, the noise really degraded the imaging accuracy, but once the 3M absorber was applied, the soundstage really opened up with clarity and resolution. So before you splurge on the Air Lens, give it a try.

The manual for the Airlens is available on the PS Audio web site [.]

Even though I’ve known for quite some time that the outputs are limited, it still surprises me. Especially after all of the streamers we’ve seen released this year.

Agreed. It hurts me to repeat what I felt earlier, but unless the sound quality is way above its pay grade, it may just be too little, too late.

Next week I’m getting a loaner Innuos Pulsar to play with. I am curious how it compares to the Rossini’s bridge.

The Pulsar is on my radar as well but thought they we not in the States yet.

The Pulsar is on my radar too. I’ve been wondering, given the improved MK2 USB interface of the DSD MK2, if a Phoenix USB Reclocker inserted between my Mac mini and the MK2 would provide an equivalent enhancement. Roon on the Mini already streams Qobuz for me and my library is on a Thunderbolt RAID-5 array for redundancy. A used Phoenix can be had for far less than a Pulsar.

Airlens approximately USD2000

The AL really will need to smother all the streamers priced $1,000 USD or less.

I have my eye on the Denafrips ARCE but that could change.

I’ll let you know. There wasn’t any talk of availability issues.

Great! Even if it’s a pretty unfair comparison.

If possible try also the Sense App, I’m curious to know your opinion.

May I ask why you are doing this Pulsar test? I thought your all dCS route was already clear.

I think Jamie has a Pulsar at his store.

Maybe they have hit it out of the park? The material in the manual is most encouraging:

“You’ve not yet heard how great streaming can sound until you experience audio through the AirLens.”

Fascinated to see the manual advising to go for an I2S connection of 50cm if possible - maybe this is why PS Audio demo’d the AirLens stacked on top of other components at Axpona?

Will be keen to hear it!!

from the manual…

The AirLens has several custom settings for Roon that can be accessed via DIP switches on the bottom of the unit.

here we go, more DIP switches
