When I look at the specs for the Airlens, the outputs are limited to “best” i2s, or “less” coax. My DAC does not have an option for i2s, which would mean I cannot stream as high quality audio as possible from the Airlens. I am stumped by the decision not to have a USB output, which is far more of a “standard” in the industry than i2s. Seems like PSAudio is deliberately eliminated a lot of folks from considering the Airlens - not sure that this approach will cause folks to dump their current DAC for the MKII. Just seems like a poor choice not to offer USB. Perhaps I am missing something.

Welcome, @craigdnorris !

But…does it sound better than the Holo Red?

Enquiring minds want to know.

Have fun.

Hi, I believe @Paul chipped in on this a fair while back, basically saying bringing a usb out would increase the noise and therefore it wasn’t included.

I am quite keen to try the coax of the AirLens first, understanding it can do double rate DSD, and I’ve only ever heard single rate. I have a really nice SoTM coax which I don’t want to leave behind unless it’s trounced by I2S!

The airlens jumped into “first chair” on day one (without legitimately earning it). I’d be shocked if it does not just stay there. The Red seemed so touchy during initial configurations that I have left it alone. So touchy that it’s virtually untouchable.

Um, any advice on how to fix this so I can use my new Airlens?

Mine worked immediately, and saw nothing of the sort (after enabling from settings). The Roon icon totally looks like the unit. Yours looks like a speaker for some reason.

The update for the Roon certification error:

Here’s how you do the OTA update (follow the Update Airlens Firmware):

After the firmware update, please restart both the Airlens and Roon.

RAL cable: a cable you will order and you can use it on your Air Lens II and your TSS when it finally arrives.

It really is that good. The greatest surprise in my audio journey was to find out that digital cables actually make a huge difference in sound quality, more so than my speaker cables. Audio Quest Diamond USB and RAL HDMI are the two cables that changed me.

WWPS7 USB and HDMI for me. Had a RAL HDMI but no chance to use it. The build quality was underwhelming.

My AirLens is supposed to be delivered tomorrow (Friday). It will replace the Red (at least initially), but I am running a NASA HPDE at Sonoma Raceway this weekend and likely won’t get to listen seriously until Sunday evening, and by then I’ll be toast and maybe temporarily hearing impaired due to the Spec Miatas’ angry buzzing.

I’m also enjoying the Mk2 via its USB input which is quite good.

We shall see!

as it should be :slightly_smiling_face:

I didn’t do super swell for me.
After years of trying and $1000’s of wasted $$$
I gave it up.
Not gonna vote those that know my story
Feel free to PM if u want to know what happened.
I will say for 99.5% of users it’s a great thing.
I’m in the .5% unfortunately
Also no matter if it’s great for you or not
If you have an issue their support model is abysmal esp for customers who pay for the use of it
Glad it’s been good for you.

(After my experience with the company I vowed to never let a “Roon is great comment” to go by without a challenge. Room will continue to tell everyone how great it is and it can handle any music library …hint it’s not true)

Please let us know your thoughts on SQ
Recent hearing tests have shown my hearing isn’t what it once was.
That likely explains why I’m not a believer in streamers making a big difference in SQ.
the extra features a streamer may have can be worth paying for
For me switching from a silent Angel streamer to an Innuos Pulsar didn’t get my attention in the SQ dept but I love the Innuos Sense app and I was praying for an alternative to Roon(which for me sucked)

I’ve had both I2S (HDMI) cables. The RAL was a big improvement over the Audioquest Diamond IMO. When I went to the Audioquest Dragon 48 it was like I upgraded the DAC it is that big of a change. The Dragon is substantially better performing over RAL and Diamond my opinion.

Mostly with you there. I can imagine a streamer with a fan (e.g. old laptop), or outdated parts being a sonic issue, or preventing quality. SQ is mostly source and DAC for digitial…ime.
