I remember controlling the volume directly from my PC with Jriver to the Bridge II…
I have used Jremote for years and now I cant gt it to work…
I just got Jremote to work with the Airlens but I cannot control the volume…
Trying to group the Eversolo and Airlens with roon. Not working. Swap to usb always causes issues. USB needs sync time or something. I may try eversolo app and roon and see what happens.
In a few weeks I could make a comparison with an Aries 2.2 if it would be possible to connect a hard drive, PC direct via LAN cable to the Airlens or anything without having to set up network/PC environment in the network at another one’s home.
Paul, is there an easy way to temporarily connect a storage to the Airlens at another home without having to integrate into this network?
That is going to be a an answer along the lines of “no sir”.
No USB port to connect a storage device to, and no software to address it.
You’re absolutely right with the SW, damn…I hoped for something like connecting a PC by LAN cable directly without network setup, as you can do with a NAS, but it won’t work either…
Think PS Audio MK1 DAC with a Bridge 2 card. Now add Roon Endpoint functionality, and the ability for programs like JRiver to use it as well. No storage capabilities.
I am not looking to offend anyone or start an argument. Everyone is entitled to have an opinion.
Too late
I think you are off on the time duration, more in terms of seconds not milliseconds. More importantly not shown are the detailed results, you will see a range of abilities to recall, most likely in the form of a bell curve. There are folks within our community who would most likely be on the far right if that bell curve.
These studies aren’t saying what you are saying. This is about memory when it comes to learning. The first headline is also misleading. What it should say is, if you want to learn something, read it - don’t listen to it.
Edit: in fact, the actual paper in the first study has a note by the authors stating:
“Although our findings are consistent with a number of previous human and nonhuman primate studies showing limited retention of auditory information these results do not necessarily imply that memory is inferior in the auditory modality for every taxonomic class of memory.”
FWIW, this is not apropos to the comment you made and with which I took umbrage:
Something to the effect that the difference between the MK I and Bridge II combo and the MK II and the AirLens combo was not likely significant because you really can’t remember how the MK I Bridge II combo sounded very well by the time you are listening to the new kit.
To the extent I accurately summarized what you wrote previously, I strongly disagree with such an unfounded assertion.
Most of us who actively participate in this forum are very familiar with the limitations and theory associated with A/B testing, A/B/A testing, blind testing, confirmation/expectation bias and the like; along with the controversies/differences of opinion associated with these subjects.
Feel free to post anything you want about this type of thing (perhaps in a different thread though), but you should not expect to change anyone’s minds (no matter where their opinions lie). For instance, there is an Interesting Articles thread that would be a good place to also post the two articles you noted above.
Regards.
Can anyone else possibly check if there’s a fuse holder in the Airlens or if the fuse is built into the PSU?
Couldn’t agree MORE
@entman If it is not a DirectStream DAC II then replacing your Mac Mini and USB cable with an AirLens will be a significant improvement. (The DAC II benefits from an AirLens too but not quite as much).
When you use USB to connect to your Mini, you’re tying in an incredibly noisy device (the MAC). True enough it sounds wonderful (always has) but compare the two (if you get a chance at an AL) and there won’t be any question in your mind.
The AL not only eliminates the noise inherent in computers and networks, but by running the digital audio through its advanced reclocking circuit you get nearly zero jitter. It really is an extraordinary experience.
I hope you get a chance to experience it.
Can you tell about a fuse holder existing (replaceable fuse) or not, @aaronm?
I’m still hoping to see to a database that shows which physical version of an album has the least adulterated recording available.
I have five different copies of Willie Nelson’s Stardust; Vinyl in 33/45/45 “special”, CD, DSD, Qobuz, Tidal, etc. The best version I have is a Classic Records special edition vinyl pressing in 45. It really shows how adulterated all the other versions are. In fact, a test digitization I did through a Nuwave Phono at 16/44.1 and 24/96 both showed higher dynamic range and sounded better than any of the digital copies. The digital versions had the life sucked out of them with rolled off highs, muffled soundstage, and a lifeless Willie. To my surprise, the DSD version was particularly flaccid and the worst sounding of the bunch.
