PS Audio AirLens

Thank you!

" Just need to adjust the old brain to not being able to hit “pause” on the [DS]"

I am currently using the DS MK1 with Bridge II (Roon Nucleus via Ethernet) and I’m considering an upgrade to the Airlens, but you bring up an interesting point that I had not considered. Would I lose the funtionality of the PS remote that I now have to Pause/Stop/Skip forward & backwards with music selections?

On the i2S input you can mute and flip the phase that’s all. I use Roon so nothing much has changed for me other than occasionally tapping pause on the DAC as I pass by because I’ve changed my mind and decided to head to the kitchen also!

The album art was small but kind of nice so that’s gone to naturally. I think on the MKII they wanted to have as small a display as possible noise wise. Just my hunch.

You’re welcome.

Was hoping someone could help me out… I use Qobuz exlusively and do not use roon. So I would need some kind of control like Jplay ($) to stream Qobuz? Does PS audio have a software to use the AL to external denafrips DAC ? Using the Node and the Eversolo this is all very easy with Blue OS and the eversolo app. thanks all

Hi there and welcome!! You should be able to use the mcontrol app to get Qobuz going just fine on the AirLens - I gave it a go this morning and it worked quite well!

Interesting thoughts about Wifi vs super expensive Ethernet cables… Anybody doing serious comparison using expensive WW or Dragon vs over the magical air? $3k dragon vs WiFi… Could be a revelation.

Realized my error with Dragon. Not enough coffee yet I2s whole nother thing… Same question though… Expensive Ethernet vs WiFi

Yes, agreed. The Mcontrol app works well with the AirLens and it shouldn’t be too long before Qobuz finally launches their own app (like Tidal did) but in the meantime, Mcontrol works great.

One other thought on my use case: I have galvanic isolation on the MKII inputs. I have it in AirLens. Do I need both? I also use media converter before my Melco switch to remove rest of network noise from system coming in from home network. Does the MKII negate the main benefit of the AirLens?

Putting power or interface cords that exceed the price of the components being used on makes no sense in my opinion, but to each their own. Will it be better - probably. Will it be better than spending that money on the best component upgrade you can get for the difference - likely not. But that’s a can of worms not appropriate for this thread…, haha

Any direct price comparison between the Air Lens and a Chinese competitor should take the two different economic systems into account.

Even if the SQ is similar or the same we all know that a capitalist economy is much more open and the economy itself adds a lot of cost to the AL.

You should expect to pay for the rights and freedoms we have when reflected in the consumer cost of anything “from soup to nuts” as the old timers would say.

I keep hearing the eversolo ME is different from Standard only in the DAC section. If using as a transport into an external DAC, the two are identical. (But this report/assumption seems to be coming from outside sources; not sure i’ve seen anything to this effect from the eversolo people.)

That is what Aamir the North American distributor told me directly on the phone and has been repeated multiple times on the Zidoo/Eversolo forum by their Rep/Moderator and dealers.

The clocks used are higher quality in the master edition according to the table and graphic below, which should benefit everything, streaming-only included. To suggest streaming wouldn’t be improved with higher quality clocks is sus, I’d think

Fair point (I don’t disagree) but make sure to make it also when comparing PSA speakers (made in China) versus American-made competitors

Agree completely.
If possible I always try to support economic and cultural systems that I want to be a part of. Going behind the border of a “less than open” country is not where I want to spend my money.
Some times it is unavoidable but I still don’t like it.

it says right under clock for better digital signal.

@baldy, could not agree more

Right, but there were many contending on the Eversolo thread that despite that they’d been advised that no difference in streaming quality between the two Eversolo versions, that only difference in sound quality between two versions was when using the Eversolo built-in dac
