PS Audio AirLens

Airplay is DOA for the AirLens; i.e., PSA will not be “retooling” AirLens at a later date to add AirPlay capability, if I understood Paul’s response earlier (not sure if it was in this thread).

FYI.

That’s what I think too. They won’t support it at all, not until and unless there’s a Mk II.

Correct me if I am wrong but didn’t one of D’Agostino’s preamps have Bluetooth streaming? I thought that was silly but the case is likely a friend is over and wants to stream something or there’s a party.

I got it. Change the name to Lens and go back to Apple. They’ll be much more receptive.

At least one of his preamps has a Bluetooth remote, but not Bluetooth streaming.

so crazy it might just work

I was wrong. It was an integrated that had Bluetooth streaming.

The AirLens passes up to 256DSD through its I2S interface. That sample rate is (I think) about as high as our DACs can handle at the moment. I’ll have to ask Ted how high the new DS2 will handle sample rates.

You were not wrong, just a bit of a memory lapse as to the specific product.

Interesting to learn that they sell a device with Bluetooth streaming. I would have never guessed.

I hope the new DS2 can handle only 256 because it would be a terrible shame if people bought the DS2 wanting to future-proof to some extent only to find out that the AL can’t supply it. And then you have to buy the AL yet again in a few years to get 512.

Love your products, but their features should be synchronized if they’re coming out close to each other in time.

I have no interest in 512DSD. There’s every reason to support 256DSD and anything beyond that is just a numbers game without any audible benefit.

Way too large files anyway and as we know from Ted disadvantages of higher sampling rates begin between 128 and 256.

Above DSD64 is anyway for audiophiles and a few niche albums only. The music market doesn’t use it and I doubt it will.

But recording in the highest possible rate (for future perspective or vinyl cuts) is certainly a good idea. Fortunately LP‘s don’t get bigger when DSD256 is cut to them

Perfectly reasonable. My only point is hopefully the specs of the two products—AL and DS2—are in sync. Otherwise you’ll have complaints

They’re in sync to a max of DSD256

Thank you Paul.

Ok. If the same “generation” of AL and DS2 support the same max DSD bit rates, I have no problem.

What’s the hardware platform underlying the streamer please?
E.g. is it a raspberry pi computeboard in there, some other chipset?
If we know this then it maygive us a better idea of the chances of a squeezlite image being spun for it.
I’ve asked about LMS integration a few times, but to no avail

You can just use Qobuz. That is what I do.

There’s probably more chance of Bluetooth redundancy, newer chips are effectively lossless.

All my hifi has Bluetooth, gets used with Spotify, but my wireless devices need it for set-up purposes.

Hi jpg55, just using Qobuz your pulling in Hirez? I tried using just Qobuz without BluOS on the Node and will just play cd quality. Just trying to figure out what I will need with airlens. I’ll have to wait I guess.
