My Pre “Mono” button is a god sent…any balance doubts can be quickly squelched!

Has anyone had any issues with the soundstage collapsing when using the balance tone controls in their preamp? From day 1, the imaging on my system was always spot on (directly between the speakers).
Whenever the channels in my SDAC became imbalanced, I was advised by PS Audio to try and use the balance control to correct. When I did, I didn’t like the results. It caused the soundstage to go from the size of an IMAX screen down to a normal theater. I could get the imaging to be correct, but it just wasn’t the same for me.
When I received my unit back the second time (see original post), this is exactly what my system sounds like. It’s almost like the balance was adjusted ‘behind the scenes’ and the experience just isn’t the same.
I guess I’m a purest at heart and I’ve always agreed with Paul’s opinion on this… “if you need to use the balance control, you got something wrong and you oughta fix it!”.

Wow, this explains a lot - gone through similar questioning myself. Bring back the mono button!
