PS BHK 300 monoblocks in the house!

I will follow your lead on the tubes. I’m just trying to figure out and decide where to purchase them. I was given some good advice earlier on vendors.
Enjoy the new Vette!

Thanks and this is a great group of audiophiles on the forum. You will love the BHK300s… hell, what’s not to love… Bascom is the man! I just got all my Isoacoustic pucks today. 16 Bronze and 4 Bordeaux. Took new pic for the system post… Baldy has a 16 Z06 and loves it… toys are made to have fun… have some fun with your new toys…

It is always a revelation when you discover just how much the amplifier contributes to the speaker’s performance. I can’t tell you the number of times I thought my speakers lacked this or that only to find it wasn’t them at all, just what was driving them.
Congrats on your new amps!

I am very fortunate in that my wife is also a discerning musicphile. She just sat down and I wanted her to describe what she was listening to:
“Three dimensional, it’s been awhile since I got goosebumps in that song, smooth, I never noticed those strings before, I can hear the breathing”.
I guess it’s a successful upgrade . Soon the DSD with bridge II will arrive. I can’t wait!

Wait till you hear Ted’s work. Remember, keep the DSD on all the time from day one. It takes a few months to unfold and gradually you will be amazed.

How about some brand new, Iconoclast speaker cables? You would then know just how good your system has become. Absolutely no risk in trying them out.

What front end are you moving from? You will love the DS with the Maggie’s. I’m not sure I like this move though… you won’t be able to tell me how the 300s are breaking in. Selfish I know.

Bryston BDP-2 player with BDA-2 DAC

You’re going to love the BHK300’s. I have the same issue with the banana connectors on my Fusion Audio Ella speaker cables. I also had to slide them into the hole on the side/back and them screw them down. Not optimal but works.

Thanks for letting me know I’m not the only one. The binding post looks like PS Audio’s own design.

I’ve been on that thread reading and learning. I have several BlueJeans Cables in various areas of the house.
The Iconoclast cables seem to have some great engineering behind them.

RsRk, I entirely missed this post. I apologize and have to agree that our cables are made to science, not conjecture, theory or unsubstantiated claims. Galen is the best I have worked with in my lifetime and I’m an old fart in the industry! Have a great weekend and stay warm.

Hi Bob/Galen
I have the Gen1 XLRs in my system (DSsnr, BHKpre, BHK S300 monos) and also Iconoclast speaker cables. All TPC. I was thinking of ordering a 5ft Gen2 interconnect to compare (I’m in Australia) but my preamp -to-power amp XLR is 27ft so wondering if that length of Gen1 XLR will negate any uplift from the other cables?

Just received a couple of days ago a quartet of “super matched” Tungsram PCC88 tubes from Parts Connexion here in Canada. Used Blue Horizon cleaner on the pins and installed them into the BHK 300’s. I have 125ish hours on the amps in total and about 12 hours on the Tungsram’s. Definitely needed to have the tubes settle in initially and get a few hours on them. I nice subtle improvement on the sound. More texture and feels more relaxed yet more resolving. The tubes are dead quiet too. I know the amps still need more break in but the improvement is not subtle.
I also changed the BHK preamp (150 hours on it)to the Tungsram ECC82’s again super matched. I chose to stick with the 12 series tubes instead of the 7 series. Just added more cream to the cream! Delicious

I have the exact bananas on my Crescendo speaker wire. Works fine with my BHK300s.
Try again.

hi rszk, wondering if your Bryston BDP2 will still be in play when the DS DAC arrives. and if you’re thinking of comparing the BDP2 vs. Bridge II as a streamer…
I have a BDP now feeding a Perfect Wave DAC and listen 100% to Tidal/Roon.
Curious whether the Bridge2 would be a better fit with PSA Dac’s vs. BDP…

I unfortunately did try to the point of damaging one of the banana plugs. One did go in. I am still waiting for the spades as they are in back order.

Bryston gear is going, so I won’t be able to compare with the bridge unfortunately.

you may need to unscrew the post all the way to get it started. I had the same experience at first. Fidgety, but eventually opened up. I might use something like an awl to spread the clamp when fully unscrewed. Steven from straightwire says the bananas are far superior to the spades.
