PWDII renderer error?

So I found a refurbished EA4500 for $80 on the Linksys site. I’ll have it next week sometime.

I also researched the linksys cable modem and it had as many complaints as the arris unit I now have, perhaps more. I’ve learned to take the comments with a grain of salt due to the wide range of user competency.

Installed an EA4500 Linksys router on the 2nd Ethernet port on the Mac.

A completely separate and independent network. Without Internet access.

All of the ‘extra’ stuff (wireless etc.) is disabled. Static IP enabled and the 2 devices (Mac and DAC) prioritized.

192K FLAC files still skip, multiple times over the entire album.

@johnjen

I have the same issue with 24/192 using the 3 most recent JR updates.

I think this is a JR issue so hang in for a few updates and see if they can fix it.

I was getting that impression (that PSA was ‘looking’ into it).

And just for those who are interested, this linksys router (and other linksys units I’ve recently played with) are a bit flakey. It’s all to easy to get it to go sideways when things are pushed in setup.

It does seem to work ok when its running, but it isn’t any where near as robust as netgear nor the others I have experience with.

Not sure what they are doing but, I suspect that once JR and WS are stable then a Bridge tweak will probably be released.
I'm on the latest JR for Mac and there are still problems with 24/192 so that fix may help too.
I'm not always in the direct loop so I often just get crumbs of info too.

can you add an example?

Sure, I set up an IP inside a DHCP ‘window’ that was reserved or static. Instant sideways C&B.

Many times I would attempt to setup a prioritized and ‘dedicated’ connection between the Mac and the DAC only to have the setup screen freeze.

I tried to upgrade the firmware (which didn’t need to be, as it turns out) but the installer came back with an error code instead of telling me it wasn’t needed.

During set up the router requires an Internet connection. Yet in my test case, not only won’t it be ‘seeing’ the Internet, it isn’t supposed to. But there is no way around this.

Now granted these are sorta picking at nits but the router would all to often go sideways, forcing me to reset and start over.

I’d liken it to not being ‘robust’.

Hi

There may be a problem with the router?

In the EA series they use a new software that is supposed to make all the connections more intuitive.

I’ve never had the “sideways” issue so I have no real answer for that.

Does it give you a choice at the beginning of set up to do manual instead of a wizard?

The reset button will bring you back to factory defaults.

I set a limited dynamic range like .100 to.150.

I then connect one item at a time and look for the IP that it assigns naturally and then I “reserve” it in the DHCP reservations.

You then use the same IP on the device.

Then a reboot of everything should all come back up with the same as static IPs.

You can also set the IPs “outside” the range like .10.25.50 and the router will then keep the 100-150 range for dynamic wifi devices. If you use a wifi controller you will need to leave “broadcast” on.

The initial internet connection is to allow you to download the latest firmware.

It’s probably my ‘fault’ in that I tend to push devices into potential failure modes just to see what will happen, on purpose. I have learned quite a bit about various devices that way. It also lets me know how they handle ‘odd’ or ‘out there’ setups etc.

I do have to say I was a bit surprised at this being a CISCO labeled router, even though Cisco is/has selling/sold off this division. I somehow expected it to perform a cut above in terms of internal robustness. But they are (like most others) caught up in the features battle.

And don’t get me wrong, it’s a fine router for what it is.

But right now its back in it’s box waiting for its next use.

Is your issue with skipping resolved now? Which router are you using and, btw, what does “sideways” mean? :-/
