Did the blinky light thing too. No dice. Tried MConnect said there was an update, failed with error. Rebooted Airlens and was able to update via MConnect. Rebooted Airlens again… now rocking…
For those of you who have tested Qobuz Connect and also stream from Roon: Is there any difference in sound quality if you compare between Qobuz Connect and Qobuz via Roon ?
With Qobuz Direct, I detect a slight uptick in dynamics and clarity. Soundstage is even more solid and focused than through Roon.
My initial reaction was, “maybe”.
Need to listen more to some familiar music to see if Qobuz direct is “better” than Qobuz c/o Roon…
FWIW.
I don’t have an Airlens but I’ve observed times when TIDAL Connect on various streamers offered smoother overall sound than TIDAL via Roon. Noticeable mostly with cymbals.
How’s that for a unrelated anecdote?
100% agree. It’s louder but once you match the volume it’s clearer, more dynamic, more crisp and clear, and soundstage is definitely improved.
Same happened here. I think the update causes mconnect to lose contact with the AirLens until it is rebooted (power cycled). The mconnect app has always been dodgy in my experience–seems to work whenever it wants to.
I can’t be bothered to compare. Life’s too short to fuss over it IMHO. I’m not about to switch back and forth constantly between Roon (playing from my own library) and Qobuz Connect when all I want to do is relax and listen to music at night. Qobuz plays such a small part of my listening experience (it’s a supplement for maybe 10% of my listening) it’s not worth worrying about it.
Elsewhere in the house, I wouldn’t hear a difference anyway. Outdoors, my JBL Boombox 2 ain’t gonna care. (And to be honest, the Qobuz app is more stable than Roon when WiFi isn’t as strong.)
That said, if anyone hears what they think are differences, it would be interesting to ask over at Roon’s forum as to why that is the case. The AirLens seems to be the “cleanser” of all things streaming, so if anything happens prior to that, there has to be some reason for it.
I am definitely liking Qobuz more with the Connect update…
So far, I am experiencing the same thing Qobuz Connect a bit louder but also clearer & more crisp. Need to do more listening, but that is also my 1st impression.
In another thread I described the sound as “almost glassy”. I stand behind that observation even more as I listen to it more.
Please, can someone help me figure out what’s going on here?
I downloaded the latest AirLens firmware, unzipped it, and put image.bin on a USB stick. I inserted it and rebooted the AirLens (twice). The AirLens behaved as it is supposed to, that is, showed the blue light briefly after the first reboot, then flashed a number of times. I also rebooted the DS DAC for good measure.
mConnect tells me that the AirLens firmware is 4.4.68, and under the services list, it shows both Qobuz and QobuzC (which I assume stands for Qobuz Connect).
On my iPad, when I search for Qobuz in the App Store, I see a flashy banner telling me about “Qobuz Connect.” it offers me the option to open rather than get (download) this version. When I open the app, it shows version 9.0.1; I understand that version 9.0 is the minimum for Qobuz Connect. I have rebooted the iPad.
I still cannot access Qobuz Connect. If I open the Qobuz app, it will play to my iPad, but not to the AirLens. I have poked around every corner in the app and can’t find a way to tell it which device I want to play too. I’m getting really frustrated with this.
Play some music. On the screen with album art displayed and progress bar showing below in left hand corner there should be an icon which shows iPad, if you are using a iPad. Click on it. A display listing available devices will come up. Click on the device you want to use. Should work.
as @rkindel noted, you must select the AirLens in Qobuz (Connect) app, changing from iPad to AirLens (of course it better be in the list)
I get the icon on the lower right. Otherwise same same.
Thanks, everyone – problem now solved.
When I open the Qobuz app, it has four tabs at the bottom: discover, magazine, library and search. It defaults to the Discover tab. At the upper right in this display, there is a gear icon, which gives me access to all sorts of stuff about my account. I assumed this is where I needed to look to change from iPad to.AirLens. After reading your replies, I changed to the library tab and started to play one of the albums I purchased from Qobuz. Now at the lower right, I saw a little icon that looks like a speaker with something next to it (a resistor??). Here I was able to select the AirLens. This icon was not visible until I started playing music – which of course I never did because I thought I needed to switch to the AirLens first. Like so many software issues, it was incredibly frustrating and very simple at the same time.
hide the good stuff
More fun. I stopped Qobuz playing in order to type my reply above. When I went back to it, I got a message saying that I was off-line and was no longer able to select the.AirLens. 20 or 30 seconds later, it came back; but I could not find any sort of “reconnect“ button or some such.
I selected one of the albums that I purchased from Qobuz and, using the three-dot icon at the right of each track name, added three tracks to the play queue. But I cannot find how to access the queue. This was not a problem with the earlier (pre-Connect) Qobuz that I accessed through mConnect. Anybody know how?
OK, figured it out – sort of. When you have music playing, there are three dots at the top of the screen that give you access to history, play queue and the track that is currently playing. But you can’t control the queue unless something is playing (I guess).
One day, Qobuz wouldn’t recognize AirLens - shut it off for 15 seconds and all is well…
In playing Quboz Connect on my new AL, many songs will start, skip and then continue playing. Has anybody else experienced this skip at the beginning of songs? I’m feeding the AL with ethernet cable from my Eros device on my fiber network.
