Roon 1.8 Announcement

Another Roon teaser email today …
Stop it already :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:

Did you see the note about waiting 2 weeks for the dust to settle before upgrading? Yeah, me neither but it’s a good idea. There is no going back save for a image of your Core and clients but support for 1.7 will probably quickly fade from Valence et al (the backend).

It should be ok.
It’s not their first rodeo.

It’s not mine either. 4 years lifer.

Go for it!

No Roon Remote updates showing up in the Apple App Store yet.

It’s a footnote from the email An experience tailor-made to you (part 5 of 5)

I remember the days when Apple announced a new phone and there would be a queue (line) of thousands of people outside apple stores. Now you just keep your finger on the refresh button.

The Roon Community will light up in minutes if there are any issues.

According to Roon, Tuesday, FEB 9th is release day for 1.8. I probably would not rush into upgrading on Day 1, but give them a few days to work out any major bugs.

Roon 1.8 Arrives FEB 9th

Where is the fun in that?

Living on the edge does not apply to software upgrades. :grinning:

Sure it does…I am running macOS 11.3 beta1 on my primary system right now!

Right, and I will avoid the grief myself by learning from what others experience. Regardless, 1.8 is not going to change my listening to music, immediately.

Aurender is one company that hasn’t integrated RAAT into their device. Their position is Roon requires more cmputer resources than their gear needs or utiziles. They do allow Airplay functionality. Roon sounds good, but for my critical listening, I prefer Aurender and Bryston players using their own software. Roon rocks on metadata and ease of use though.

There was some info floating about on the Roon forum that the current Roon app wont be compatible with 1.8 until Apple rolls the new app. Might be a day or two to get things in sync.

Huh?

The “current” Roon 1.7 iOS and Android apps are not compatible with Roon 1.8 Core. The Roon 1.8 iOS and Android apps are not compatible with the “current” Roon 1.7 Core.

So, if you use iOS or Android devices to control Roon, you really want to wait to update to Roon 1.8 until both Core and apps are available at 1.8.

Thanks. I’m going to wait a few days to see how it rolls out. I’ve grown more fond of listening to my new Aurender Music Server. The Metadata is not as spiffy as Roon, but it sure sounds nice.

Today is the day, supposedly.

Has anyone been able to find the updated Roon Remote app. for iOS yet, or the Roon update for that matter?

I’ve only heard good things about Aurender and their software.

The Roon forum community is very active. Therefore, we will know within the first day if it is safe to get in the water or not. I am looking forward to upgrading, but I’m in no rush to be first. I am sure Roon’s software team will be very busy this week tweaking the software as needed. They have been down this road before.
