Unfortunately, as I understand it, the Aries is closed, accessible only through its own Lightning app. This app currently is iOS only and restricted to the iPad. Control client support for more iThings, Android, OS X and Windows are promised, but will remain proprietary and closed.

Aries is not closed.

Accessible via e.g. the Lumin app and Kinsky and Android is in the making.

True, but in this case the OHnet setting in the Aries needs to be set to uPnP.

Yes to both questions, however the LDS will be available on other platforms than IOS as Gordon pointed out.
