Something new is coming... Join us at AXPONA

Thank you. May be a great time to come say hello (and say hi to Lou) and see the new lab…congrats on the new product line

I would think that’s when they should roll out the better trade allowances, in order to get more end users out there gushing about the new products.

For the then new DS2, they offered a much higher trade allowance on the DS1 for a limited time initially…and this time lots interested in the new DAC will have a DS2 and an Airlens to trade…

I understand and agree with your point. My first thought was that buyers wanting the first batch would be the ones with the deep pockets, not caring about the trade allowance. The “gotta have it first” group! Grab the bigger profit margins first! Whatever occurs in the next few months, I’m sure they have a game plan already set. One that reflects this new economy we have to live in.

Seeing how subjective audio can be…it would not surprise me if some of you mk2 owners might just be more impressed with the 2 in comparison to the new one!
New doesn’t necessarily mean better to the ears of the beholder…

I’m happy with my Marantz Link 10n. It’s a preamplifier with an integrated phono input, DAC, and streamer all in one. Very, very solidly built with a very spacious, never annoying sound and excellent soundstage. Very good measurements with low distortion.

Here’s a pic of the new PS Audio remote which I believe is an optional remote

It’s a bit like a Moon BMR 1 remote control, only not as pretty.

I wonder why the buttons and dial aren’t centered with something like the usb c port?

Edit: oh, I see they are centered within the aluminium designs that look like the faceplate

I tried to take a photo of the remote but the light shining on the P20 below made a lousy photo due to glare. I didn’t dare touch it and incur the wrath of the overlords …

I should add that it must not be functional yet, never saw them use it.

I’m not sure if this was mentioned already in a thread but when I was listening to Paul discussing it, he said that all the gear standard PS Audio remote that we all know of and the little analog looking remote will be a separate purchase.

Just looking a little back in hifi-history: Over the last ten years at PS Audio 4 types of cd-sacd-transports had been invented and produced. The successor of DSD MK2 was introduced just 30 months after the launch of the MK1 successor. Puuh; very short production periods. A little disappointing for MK2-Owners. I will keep an eye on upcoming test results. And on Competitors. The architecture of the new series is promising. Good Success with it. Bye bye …

Your observation on SACD transports is correct, however, the PWT was available for several years and had a fairly normal life cycle. The PWT also played only CD and data discs, no SACD. The DMP, which was introduced for SACD playback was prematurely discontinued when OPPO, without warning, stopped production of all their players and drives. PS Audio and other manufacturers using the OPPO drive were caught off guard and were unable stockpile drives. In the case of the PST, Marantz also discontinued production of their drives, but did give the opportunity to stockpile. The switch from PST to the PMG player (announced this past Friday) is a little surprising, and it is unclear if there is any significant improvement performance wise, but the new chassis design (which is supposed to offer improved isolation) dictated a new product. The sad news is they can only make about 300 more players before they run out of drives. I feel very comfortable keeping my PST.

With respect to the DS Mk II, that is disappointing and has been shared by several others. The bright side is the DS Mk II is still an exceptional DAC. I am going to try and take comfort in that …

They can only make 300 more PMG players? Oh man. I wonder how many have already been made.

Are companies like Yamaha, McIntosh, Mark Levinson and many more in the same boat regarding SACD drives?

Am I incorrect that Esoteric manufactures their own drives and therefore are not exposed to this problem?

Thanks for reminding us of this history – I’d forgotten about the Oppo drive although I knew about its discontinuance at the time.

I was surprised to learn that PSA is coming out with a new SACD player when they could make only 300 of them. Seems like a lot of engineering work for something so limited. (Maybe they were able to carry much of the design from the PST into the new case.) I also am keeping my PST – I don’t listen as much to silver discs as I used to so there’s no reason to spend money on a new unit.

Yes, and other than pre-existing contracts will no longer sell OEM.

Guessing much of it was done already so why not. Same case.

Would be nice if PS Audio offered an upgrade kit (for a fee) so everything matches. Other companies have done similar programs in the past. Send in your PST, drive is flashed and put into in the new chasis, extend the warranty for a year or two and you get the PMG Transport in return for nominal cost

So wonder if they sell out of the 300 new PMG transports, will that mean there’s no back up drives to cover potencial warranty issues?
