Speaker Cable and Interconnect Advice needed

I love the Iconoclast cables, I started with a 2M balanced Gen 2 4x4 OFE from my preamp to BHK amp and later replaced my speaker cables with the series 2 SPTPC. The rest of my cables are Cardas Clear and a couple of BAV power cables. You can’t beat a free 30 day trial. Iconoclast and BJC are fantastic to work with. You could compare in your system with a trial of something else through Cable Co. lending library. Eventually I will probably end up with a full loom of Iconoclast.

I recently upgraded to Fidelium speaker cables, that made a jaw-dropping difference to my system!

Curious as to what they displaced. The Fidelium has been recommended by my current speaker maker as an excellent go to. I’d give them a try, however one our cats has this thing for ribbon. Unfortunately the cable wouldn’t survive the day.

Hi @weedeewop
They replaced Analysis Plus Oval 12. Night and Day difference. Jeffrey Smith from Silversmith Audio said that some clients will wrap their Fidelium cables with Techflex

All the best,
Phil

Charlie’s persistence will not be deterred by techflex. It may slow him down, but in the end the cable will be perforated. Even with his arthritis fencing, as employed by some on this forum, won’t slow him down. As he plays with ribbons he’d tug the cable and likely topple the speakers.

My dog is well behaved. When my daughter spread her study notes all over the lounge room floor before exams, our dog took great care not to walk on them!! No cats or rabbits for me :joy:

That’s his only vice, otherwise he’s golden. …and no dogs for me, to each their own.

There has long been a rule of thumb in the UK that cables should be about 10% of the system cost. In the USA that seems to be about 50%.

Look for cables that have stood the test of time, preferably decades. I have Canare 4S11, they are an extremely popular studio microphone cable. QED79 has been widely used since 1978 and I have Towshend Isolda, very popular since 1980.

Remember that audiophile cables have a massive profit margin, so they want you to “upgrade” them and often.

I have tried the Blue Jeans Canare 4S11, as well as the Blue Jeans Cables 5000 10AWG series speaker cables. The latter I still have. They are a fine entry level cable, but I have moved on up with speaker cables. Should any one wish to experiment with the BJC 5000 10 AWG white jacket cables, I may consider selling them, as they are currently sitting in a closet.

The percent rule for wires most likely was initiated by “the dealer network” as I have heard variation on this idea. I consider my budget, listen to what fits, and buy what I like and can afford. IME there isn’ one cable that stands out, it is all about system synergy. There was a time when I believed Straight Wire cables were “it” having Maestro interconnects and Rhapsody speaker cables. They too now reside in the excess components closet. Again very fine cables and well constructed.
