Spotify Lossless with DirectStream DAC Mk1 + Bridge II

Hello everyone,

I own a PS Audio DirectStream DAC Mk1 with the Bridge II installed. I really love my setup for streaming local lossless/high-res/DSD music files. For casual listening, though, I also use Spotify Connect quite a lot.

Spotify has recently introduced their lossless service, but I’m not sure if it’s already available in every country or fully supported on all devices. I can use it on my phone and on the desktop app, but so far I haven’t had any success getting it to work with the Bridge II. When I check the streaming bitrate through the Bridge in the Spotify app, it actually reports only 96 kbps, even though I set it to 320 kbps.

The setting for lossless is greyed out and unselectable:

Has anyone here managed to stream Spotify Lossless into the DirectStream DAC Mk1 (via the Bridge II)? Or is lossless support simply not possible at this point?

Thanks in advance for your help!

Best regards, Chris from the Netherlands

It would likely require software/firmware updates from Conversdigital just like Qobuz Connect. You probably need to reach out to them and see if they have any intentions of doing so.

Would you mind clarifying who “them” is?

Might be of help to the OP…

I’m not sure but shouldn’t PS Audio be in the lead for such a request? Or is the bridge so old that support cannot be expected anymore?

Just like the board in the Airlens the guts of the Bridge II are from Conversdigital. They would have to do any hardware firmware updates. I don’t expect that PSA could or would but feel free to call them and discuss it.

Allright, thanks @dawkinsj , I will look into contacting CoversDigital about it.

Yeah I cannot believe this, I have been waiting years for Spotify Lossless for my PS Audio Directstream and now its arrived and we discover its greyed out! What is the point of buying this premium gear if software updates just cease and we cannot get the life out of it.

This YT video from GoldenSound suggests the reason - essentially he says that Spotify lossless is not actually lossless

Just to add I’m not associating myself with the views expressed just posting as a possible explanation of the greying out of lossless option

I belive he refers to the different output/wave form to be a result of Windows and or processing. The source is good, it’s the delivery.

Also this is very recent change. No surprise a Bridge II or older technology can’t cover it.

Even some much newer tech (Innuos for example) can’t process the new “lossless” signal yet…. (Waiting on a firmware update)
