SR Black Box

I’m guessing there’s no way to open the BB, would be interesting to see what makes it tick.

A hammer should do very nicely.

The BB can be opened, but a sticker warns that doing so voids the warranty…

I believe that to be true but I think the only way it can be broken is by opening it.

Gonna try a couple here in our media room and see how well they work…looking forward to it!

Says they are trade ins. BB carbon upgrade more than likely

So they probably demoed the new carbon units and they sounded better so now these are for sale.

I had posted my evaluation and its PS under Furry Audio Buddies. Copy below:

Black box, its nice but honestly not ‘highly’ recommended. Although I did keep it! To test it, I removed it from my listening room. Conclusion, it added a little to overall musicality, pleasantness, and ease; enough for me. Hard for my ears to tell but it seems to make the bass and vocals nicer. Those are my listening goals, so I kept it.

PS I have been experimenting with different placement positions: beside each speaker, behind the right speaker, and in front of the rack. Yesterday I tried the black box behind my listening chair. That placement has become my preferred location. The bass is stronger and more accurate there. I now give it a ‘high’ recommendation.

I like what the BB is doing in my system. I tried two of them in a smaller room and kept only one.
I am getting a second one, the new model, again,
to see if it does more in a larger room.
SR BB’s and PSI C214’s do more than passive absorption and diffraction panels to mitigate room anomalies and your hear benefits through out the frequency range. That said, you still need panels, especially to scatter frequencies.
Whether active or passive, these three approaches do different things, mostly good. Just and money and space as required.

Or you need Bacch Optimal Room Correction.
(But that is too easy)

I’m thinking if you sell the C214 you shouldn’t be buying the competitors product. Lol

Sometimes it takes a team approach. Funny thing is that I had the opportunity to be in a “flat” room. It was in anechoic chamber at Panasonic in Japan.
It felt strange.
I guess the reflections in the natural world is what we feel is most natural. Too much of those reflections, or when they hang around too much, however, are disturbing. I’ve spent a lifetime trying to get rid of them in my audio room. Bummer.

I’m just joking with you. I will be curious about the stacking capability’s of two black boxes.

The last week of March, finally I’m going to work (again) on the room.

It should have a significant impact, acoustically speaking, on sound and therefore it might require some new treatments.

I could have to consider one (or more) of these options

PSI C214
Black Box
DAAD tube traps

Probably the most difficult part will be a new different speakers and listening chair set up. Usually it takes a few weeks (if you are lucky). I’ll do my homework.

Time will tell.

You started this thread, did you remove the Black Box?

I use and like the SR Black Box in front of and in the middle of my speakers, but it is this bad boy behind my listening position that makes the most difference…

Is it the gong from the Gong Show?
