Recently I connected my Strata MKII to a new streamer that has I2S output. As far as I can tell, the pinout assignments of the HDMI connectors match PSAudio’s.
Music is reproduced, and I can say it sounds way better than everything I have experienced. But the Strata shows no bits/sampling rate information and a red dot saying that there is no input.
How could this be if sound is out?
I’ll appreciate any insights about this issue.
Guessing this is the same issue I get using i2s from an Oppo UDP205, with a converter box, to the i2s input on the DS Perfectwave DAC MKII. I get the red dot and won’t show resolution of the incoming signal. My understanding is this is normal with many non-PS Audio digital sources; the DAC is just not recognizing the “handshake” with the source device. Other than display, it’s not a problem, as you’re still receiving the i2s signal, and it will play the resolution you’re sending up to the resolution capabilities of the DAC.
I have the same problem with my Strata mk2. Bit rate and depth are not shown on the display of the Strata while the music sounds really great. I encountered this problem with a Yamaha CD player connected to the SPDIF input of the Strata and with a Sony Blu-Ray player through a Chinese HDMI to I2S converter connected to a I2S input of the Strata. The bit rate and depth indication does work for the TV connected to the Strata using the optical input.
I contacted PSaudio support and they replied that it probably is due to the part of firmware of the Strata mk2 that determines the bit rate and depth. They hope that it will be solved in a future firmware update.
