Stellar strata streaming

I have a stellar strata, been trying to get streaming on it to work for a long time now. About the only thing that works is spotify from my phone.

I use pfsense as my firewall & router. I have pimd installed, so that my protected network can see the entertainment network. The roku and my yamaha receiver both show up on the entertainment network, but the strata only shows up once in a blue moon. I have the latest firmware installed.

Anyone here have any tips on getting the strata to reliably appear on my network?

A specific rule for the (fixed) IP address of the Strata not help?

I haven’t used pfsense for about 5 years and didn’t use pimd so apologies for the obvious suggestion :slight_smile:
I appreciate it should “just work” with dynamic IPs, but, ya know, sometimes stuff just doesn’t


another thing to try of course is a packet sniffer (tcpdump if you are feeling brave and can quiesce the rest of the network)

Which app are you using to discover the Strata and play your music? Mine has been pretty reliable using the WiiM Home app. No problems discovering the Strata and it easily integrates Amazon Music Unlimited.
Sorry if you need help with the actual networking. Not my strong point.

Sorry for long delay, life got in the way. Spotify does not find it reliably, nor does Roon, nor does Plex, nor does Jamcast. The only app that streams to it with any degree of consistency is TuneBlade, and even that sometimes has trouble finding it.

Spotify will connect sometimes, and be streaming fine, and then just drops the connection midsong and won’t recover it. Even fully resetting the Strata doesn’t allow spotify to connect again.

It may be the networking, but if so I have yet to find the magic rule. I’ve tried assigning a fixed IP to the strata and opening up all other interfaces to it, and still no luck. For comparison, my Roku sits on the same network as the Strata, and I can stream to it from my phone all day without issues.

The Strata definitely does not like being firewalled off - if it cannot phone home to some server in ap-southeast-2 it gets finicky. Does anyone know if the airlens requires a connection to external servers to work? I am mostly ready to give up on the strata, I love the sound but cannot justify the time I have spent trying to get it to work with streaming.
