Strictly Jazz Sounds (Part 1)

Ella Fitzgerald with the Duke Ellington Orchestra “At Duke’s Place” Verve cd

This is one of my favorite of Ella’s collaborations. Just so wonderfully relaxed and the arrangements so tenderly enveloping her. Great music and engineering.

Aside from this music, the system is sounding excellent today. The Orange fuses that I installed in my Monoblocks seem to have stabilized and are giving a very musical balance to everything. So it’s time to upset the apple cart again–I have a Purple fuse coming in tomorrow for the P15.

Saw this on Facebook and thought it might be of interest to those of you who buy new vinyl. . . if it has not been seen earlier.

I have it, too. Some of the best music on a D2D.

On white vinyl!

I broke down and found a NM- 1965 version on Discogs after ordering a new copy on the Not Now Music label. My guess is the latter is a digital to vinyl affair, possibly ripped from a CD. Will compare in a couple of weeks.

That’s quite a haul. Enjoy!

Listening to the SACD version. Great music and SQ as well!

Lately when I listen to this I imagine I can feel the joy Wilen has being in the NYC area and recording at RVG’s.

Mine is black vinyl.

By the way here another great D2D of noteworthy artists…it’s still cheap on Discogs and a recommendation for those who appreciate D2D!

Strong line-up offering plenty of potential.

Mars Williams Witches & Devils An Ayler Xmas recently performed in Madison. Witches and Devils consists of Mars Williams, Josh Abrams, Peter Maunu, Kent Kessler, Jim Baker, Brian Sandstrom, and Steve Hunt. Excluding Josh and Pete, the Witches & Devils ensemble dates back to the Chicago based Hal Russel NRG . These gentleman have been playing together since the mid '80 If my memory serves me right. An amazing jazz community thrives in Chicago.

‘Four’ & More, Miles Davis Sony SRCS-9111 cd

First listen to a Synergistic Research Purple fuse in my P15, replacing a Blue fuse.

And how is the music?

‘Four’&More the music is good as it always has been since it came into my life about '75 or so. Tony Williams on upbeat numbers at this time and for the next few years was a monster.

The sonic change between fuses is interesting. Of course the Blue I’ve had for a year and bought used, it’s a very seasoned fuse. The Purple is a baby but there is a change in the presentation: a bit warmer bass and a bit more “depth”–more going on in between and behind the speakers, perceived a bit deeper back.
