Strictly Jazz Sounds (Part 1)

I haven’t heard “Data Lords” yet but there are a number of her releases I really do like.

Today
“The Jazz Life” Candid Records/Solid Records Japan cd.

This is perhaps the one Candid I never owned before. And damn it sound so good in this issue!

There are more Candid releases from Solid Records released today; I have another shipment from cdJapan on the way to me.

Stumbled onto this while searching new releases on Tidal. This set keeps popping up, just have too many box sets! But then again, what’s one more as a friend has offered me his copy for a reasonable price.

I have worked with these two fine music afficionados promoting their BlueStem Jazz productions in Madison, Wisconsin. If you are in the Madison area, or seek a road trip check out some of the upcoming performances. It covers a wide span of music, Roscoe Mitchel to Julian Lage, with a little Dave King thrown in for the hell of it!

An excellent album, and I particularly enjoy their cover of Amina Claudine Myers’ Have Mercy Upon Us.

Pat Thomas and the Locals cover of Anthony Braxton works of the 1970’s, typically featured on the Arista label. An interesting take on the music with Pat Thomas’ piano work as a standout on Composition 6c.

A fine Pure Pleasure vinyl reissue. The first LP features Clifford with Stanley Cowell, Bill Lee, and Billy Harper. Strong effort by Clifford on the first LP, with a great bass lead in by Bill Lee on the piece John Coltrane.

Time for some Trippy Jazz Psychedelia, Ron Carter laying out a fine bass vibe below Alice’s harp, with Rhashied 's drum highlights.

A legend.

Yet another strong McCoy Tyner offering featuring Gary Bartz, Wayne Shorter. and Ron Carter

Incredible soundstage on this, especially for a 1971 live date. Pharoah is in top form on this album.

Yes I mentioned this one above, pretty astonishing recording. I suspect it’s possibly a doctored studio effort.

As I was listening to it that was my thought as well. Regardless an enjoyable listen all around.
For those wishing to explore and having access to Tidal:

Jimmy Cobb passed away last May (91 YO). He appeared with the likes of Wynton Kelly, Miles Davis, Nat Adderley, John Coltrane, and Kenny Barron.

This recording was done with Peter Bernstein, Harold Mabern, and John Webber.

Title track on that one is really nice.

Earlier
Albert Ayler “Music is the Healing Force of the Universe” Impulse/Universal Japan SHM-CD.

I forgot about the bagpipes. . .not a fan of those but I like the rest of the album a lot, it’s one of a kind. Ali on drums adds a lot.

Didn’t know what to follow this with. . . decided on
