Listening on Qobuz after a long Old and New Dreams morning session. This album is might fine with wonderful sonics. Thanks for suggesting it, as it remains in my Qobuz favorites,
I had always intended to get The Ellington Centennial Edition and just kept putting it off, maybe Now’s The Time!
This might get me by in a pinch.
I bought it with most of my tax return the year it was released. A great archive.
None available via Discogs in the US at the moment. Twenty-four CDs is a lot to work through, and shipped from Europe all in its >$300 used. It can wait for now. Thanks for suggesting it.
Well, I was listening to it not necessarily suggesting it! I paid 300 plus when it was new, the list price. . . There is no longer “unique” material here and it is less of an invaluable resource than it had been. But it’s a great achievement of a jazz reissue and a great tribute to one of our nation’s greatest composers and band leaders.
I agree with your comment above, a true treasure. I take posts here as suggested albums worth a listen for the community. Actually, I listened to the majority of those posted in the original thread, and purchased many that I did not own. I did side step the smooth jazz postings.
Thank you for starting this thread. My collection has grown quite a bit because of it.
Their first release 2008.
A piece from the write-up on their website “ The Jan Harbeck Quartet play modern acoustic jazz with a warm, accessible and expressive delivery.”
A pleasant and enjoyable album. Good SQ. Streaming from Qobuz.
Excellent effort, recorded in 2008 but not released until 2018.
