Strictly Jazz Sounds (Part 2)

Bobby Gordon Quartet Featuring Adele Girard Marsala “Don’t Let it End” Arbors Jazz cd

Recreating the unique sound of the Joe Marsala units that featured his harpist, his wife, Adele Marsala. I’m a Bobby Gordon fan and this is another of his excellent releases on Arbors.

Of course you know the sonics on this are something else, with an incredibly deep soundstage. Brought it along for a listen to some Vandersteen Kento speakers driven by Audio Research REF 160S. Those present weren’t familiar with the CD. After listening to Root Pressure they lined up asking for more info on the performance, recording and how to obtain a copy. Fans of later Yusef Lateef and Adam Rudolph will be well rewarded by seeking it out.

Seeing the Nina Simone Philips Years reminded me of her Bethlehem LP release, and then her CoolPix LPs. Some fine music there.

There are so many releases of this album on Qobuz…

For some reason that particular one does not come up on my Qobuz account. Not sure why. You are correct, in general Qobuz offers a lot of Nina Simone. Little Girl Blue being a favorite. I have more than a few Nina Simone records on vinyl LP.

Maybe not a great recording, but the music is excellent, and I’m so into Toots right now…,
