Strictly Jazz Sounds (Part 2)

A cast of the best of the West Coast 1962 and some great tune choices. In that Capitol sound.

Fred Moten, Brandon Lopez, Geald Cleaver on vinyl, and sounding mighty fine. Vinyl copies of this are relatively scarce. There may still be one at Redscroll. Reminiscent of Gil Scott Heron, Moor Mother, and a pared down Irreversible Entanglements.

Here is the track list from Discogs:
The Abolition Of Art, The Abolition Of Freedom, The Abolition Of You And Me

B Jenkins
The Faerie Ornithologie

A personal favorite, well I’ve a soft spot for Sonny Clark in general. I just looked and I have several copies including the Classic and a Music Matters 45er. Unfortunately none of them are on hand

An interesting lineup, all acoustic…

TONY BUCK: drums and percussion
JOHN BUTCHER: saxophones
MAGDA MAYAS: piano
BURKHARD STANGL: guitar

Every time I see that Basie/Vaughan cover I hear in my head “If I were a gate I’d be SWINGING!”

Incredible jazz for the time, and great sonics that in my system improve with every upgrade. A fine example of an early CD Release that needed no improvement.
