Remarkable record. The timing, group interplay and the actual recording are all top notch. I really like Sorey’s space.
This is a gem.
I’ve been following and seeing Gerald Clayton for some time.
Yes. And the draw for ME has been Wilkins and Ross–the last few years I have been seeking out and buying leader or sideman sessions with those two who I think are among the brightest of new stars.
That is some Fine Art Blakey and the Jazz Messengers. Several suggestions for Art Blakey and the Jazz Messengers. The first three are mono recordings with Horace Silver, Lou Donaldson, Clifford Brown and Curly Russell:
A different Jazz Messengers configuration with Lee Morgan, Wayne Shorter, Barney Wilen, Walter Davis or Bud Powell, and Jymie Merritt.
Then there is this. The Messengers are Lee Morgan, Wayne Shorter, Jymie Merritt, and Bobby Timmons.
Big fan here.
Stephan Crump’s Borderlands Trio, Rewilder, never ceases to delight. This Intakt double CD offers excellent sonics, ad the group inter play is outstanding. A bit of funk and avant-garde. Those that appreciate Vijay Iyer’s Trio works may enjoy this as well.
Had to look twice. That ain’t Sahib Shihab!
I’m a big fan of Larry Grenadier’s melodic playing. I saw him and Pat Metheny doing a duet in Florence and we were entranced with both of them.
He and his brother are both very nice gentlemen.
Love his drumming!
I’ve been fortunate to see him live on several occasions. I’m always amazed with his understated style; the silence between the playing is remarkable.
I’ve seen Grenadier with Brad Mehldau many times over the last 20 plus years. He holds the fort down and creates beautiful phrasing.
