Sun Ra’s Nuits de la Fondation Maeght recordings are legendary within his extensive canon. Across two nights in August 1970, these were the first concerts Ra and the Arkestra had performed outside North America and formed part of a stellar festival line-up alongside Albert Ayler, Cecil Taylor, LaMonte Young and Marian Zazeela.
Originally released across two edited volumes by Shandar in 1971, the concerts are now being reissued by Strut in a stunning expanded 6 LP vinyl box set for Record Store Day 2025. The set is housed in a hardboard box and features a reprint of the original festival programme, a 12-page over-sized booklet featuring liner notes by Daniel Caux, Jacqueline Caux and Paul Griffiths and stunning restored photos of the festival by Philippe Gras.

Label: Modern Harmonic

Release type: ‘RSD First’ ReleaseSun RaINFO
If you’re looking for melodies, structured compositions, pleasant harmonies, songs you can whistle, and serenades for social gatherings — seek elsewhere. This is Triple-A Ra: Audacious, Aggressive, Adventurous. In the collection we’ve titled Stray Voltage, Ra is not so much composing music as painting soundscapes with electronic keyboards. Ra doesn’t simply play these consoles — he attacks, cajoles, and pounds them. Stray Voltage compiles unissued electronic peregrinations during the 1970s and '80s, pressed on frosted orange vinyl!
This is a 2025 Record Store Day release.Tracklist

If it comes out on cd the box set might interest me, “Stray Voltage” does not look like my cup of tea.
Mack Avenue will be re-releasing Pharaoh Sanders’ Izipho Zam for Record Store Day, and apparently will be re-releasing quite a few Strata East titles in the coming months.
Thanks for the heads up. The Dorham and Hubbard seem rather appealing. As far as late 70’s Mingus, it can be a bit of a crap shoot IME, predominately due to Charles’ failing health. Still, I am a huge Mingus fan, and it will be diificult to take a pass on this triple LP set.
Interesting expanded RSD release Sun Ra Arkestra Nuits de la Fondation Maeght. Having both Vol. 1 and Vol. 2 Shandar double LP sets I am on the fence on this bosx set. My guess it will be $225. Not sure if the expanded version rates the spend. The original Shandar LP releases are most worthy. Regarding Stray Voltage, it seems to be an odd collection. If I purchase it it would likely be an impulse grab at the last minute.
Thanks for posting as my mind has been on other things lately, RSD 2025 release list would be a nice distraction.
A must own Pharoah Sanders release IMO. I have the 2019 Everland Jazz/Strata East release of this 1969 recording.
Coming for RSD from Craft/Concord:
VINCE GUARALDI TRIO
Jazz Impressions Of A Boy Named Charlie Brown (Alternate Takes)
A collection of new and unreleased takes of beloved songs from the original Jazz Impressions Of A Boy Named Charlie Brown recording sessions. Includes alternate takes of “Linus and Lucy,” " Baseball Theme," “Charlie Brown Theme” and more. Featuring audio mastered from the original analog tapes and pressed on Sky Blue vinyl.
GERRY MULLIGAN AND THELONIOUS MONK
Mulligan Meets Monk
This rare mono mix of the 1957 Riverside album features (AAA) lacquers cut from the original master tapes by Kevin Gray at Cohearent Audio and is housed in a tip-on jacket.
The album is pressed at RTI and presented on classic, 180-gram black vinyl.
Speaking of Record Store Day 2025, the Bill Evans Further Ahead Live in Finland 1964 - 1969 caught my eye, with Eddie Gomez and Marty Morell. In general the RSD Evans releases have been a worthy addition to my collection.
The Mulligan Monk is a winner, and now a must with the Kevin Gray Cohearant treatment.
An excellent Live Thelonious Monk set, Live at the It Club. My original double LP is plenty fine. This remaster from the original analog tapes at 24-bit Hi-Res Audio could be a welcome addition for those that do not have the original release.
More RSD 2025 Archie Shepp and the Moon Ensemble Live at Antibes double LP set. Originally released as Actuel 38 & Actuel 39, and currently in my collection. Interesting but not essential. Targeting Shepp completists.
Really excellent remastered second disc of the 1993 Santa Cruz release. Sounds just great.
Anthony Braxton - reeds
Marilyn Crispell - piano
Mark Dresser - bass
Gerry Hemingway - percussion
A fan of Chicago based International Anthem, interesting to see Gilles picks. I have a vast IA collection, so this one’s is a pass. IA artists include Jeff Parker, jaimie “breezy: branch, Rob Mazurek, Exploding Star Orchestra, Junius Paul, etc. Could be a nice sampler for the curious.
Gilles Peterson presents International Anthem is a Deluxe Double LP compilation chronicling the infamous London-based radio host, DJ, label head, curator and cultural impresario’s long-standing affinity for and interaction with artists and music from the Chicago-born record label International Anthem. The tracks on this compilation were chosen by Peterson via an extensive review of track lists from his broadcasts on BBC 6 Music, Worldwide FM, and various syndicated radio programs. The compilation also includes a previously unreleased track recorded live on the Peterson-founded online radio station Worldwide FM. The RSD exclusive 2LP is on “Frozen Lake Michigan” colored vinyl. This album is released via International Anthem as part of their “IA11” series of releases and events – where the label celebrates their eleventh year of existence by looking back on their first ten years while establishing new standards for the next ten years.
Pressed for Record Store Day 2025 for “Frozen Lake Michigan” Color 140g 2 x LP, in a heavyweight UV-Gloss jacket, with 12"x12" insert booklet, with IA OBI Strip & printed poly-lined inner sleeves.
