Now there is one from the way-back machine. Two groups I followed closely in the 1980’s.
An excellent third stream avant garde studio set recorded in August 1995 Ned Rothenberg Power Lines. This superb nonet features:

Mark Dresser - bass
Erik Freidlander - cello
Josh Roseman - trombone
Ruth Siegler - violin, viola

While not playing on this recording, of note are producer Marty Erlich, the sound is very much from the “Erlich” school, and liner notes by John Corbett.
I especially like this set for it captures Dave Douglas at his peak, when he was more than willing to challenge himself. His trumpet playin is excellent. His recent recordings leave me wanting as he leans heavily on americana.

Rothenberg has assembled some cool groups over the years. I really liked his recent ‘Crossings Four’ album.
I’ve enjoyed some of Mr. Douglas’ recent releases (especially the ‘Engage’ and ‘Gifts’ ensembles). His past involvement with Masada, Myra Melford, Tiny Bell Trio, Charms of the Night Sky, Sound Prints were stellar.
Personally those the the albums I associate with his best work. I just can not relate to his latest works. He is a good trumpet player, but his choices are not what I seek from him.
Fans of Miles Davis circa 1969 with the under documented “Lost Quintet” - no studio recordings - would be well served to pick this one up. Wayne Shorter, Dave Holland, Jack Dejohnette, Chick Corea, and Miles. Just a caveat, the first 3,000 sold out quickly, and later versions were CDr.
The requiem is likely my favorite work by Blanchard although I like his non-soundtrack work as well. The film music for Inside Man is also a fav.
