Strictly Jazz Sounds (Part 3)

Giant Step Arts is a great jazz label, but finding its CDs can be challenging. I got this one on Bandcamp:

An amazing ‘big band’ album. Amazing sound. I have the International Phonograph cd reissue. Tempted to purchase the DSD64 download at HDTT to compare.

That is a great sounding cd–every one released by that label is.

Very cool new release on Aerophonic…..Dave Rempis plays with so many people, and the results rarely disappoint../

Dave Rempis – soprano/tenor/baritone saxophone
Terrie Ex - guitar
Jon Rune Strøm – bass
Tollef Østvang - drums

Picked this up recently but have yet to give it a listen. I can imagine it is rather intense (in a good way). A powerful line-up.

Speaking of Dave Rempis, Ballister plays the Constellation tomorrow night, yet another excellent line-up.

Collaborations with folks like Elisabeth Harnik, Tashi Dorji, Mark Feldman, Terrie Ex and Pandelis Karayorgis show the breadth of Rempis’ interests, and his reach exceeds his grasp.

Agree, as Dave continues to challenge himself, and has done remarkably well by including other talents. Ballister is yet another example, and an easy recommendation. His recent live work with Ken Vandermark has been incredible as well, reigning in Ken a bit in a good way.

Listening to Archer as I type this, it will not be getting “filed” anytime soon. The first track Omen, is a bit of a slow burn.
