Strictly Jazz Sounds (Part 3)

Joe Henderson’s Our Thing is a personal favorite of mine, especially on the Music Matters LP reissue. If you like it I’d recommend seeking out additional Joe Henderson 1960’s blue Note efforts, as each is most worthy.

For reference:

with Kenny Dorham on Page One and In N Out

with Lee Morgan on Mode for Joe

Returning to more Cape town oriented jazz with this quartet on 1979’s Did You Tell Your Mother from pianist Tete Mbambisa.

Have them all except “in 'n out”.

All purchased from someone here at the same time. Have not spun “Page One” yet.

How is the sound on the Astral Spirits Vertical Motion Anthony Davis? I’ve had a few issues with the label and recently been reluctant to pursue their releases.

Wanting to hear Chicago bassist Fred Hopkins outside of Henry Threadgill’s Trio AIR, thisOkka Disk LP satisfies. The Atlanta Concert Peter Brotzmann, Fred Hopkins, and Hamid Drake.

Heh, I would not purchase anything on vinyl from AS.

I was listening to the 96k stream from Qobuz - which sounded very good.

Here you go…of course Diedre Murray also played with Threadgill…

Pretty much my experience, as the performances are solid, unfortunately the vinyl is atrocious. Qobuz it is.
