Sunlight: Installation and Technical Issues

Did the Jr. seem to go through the update process? As in did the logo light flash for 2-3 minutes?

Newest changes:

  1. I was able to update to Sunlight today

  2. I connected first the Bluesound Vault which continued to display the dropouts

  3. I connected my older Cambridge Streamer…Sound lasted barely a beat and disappeared (I was hoping the problem was with the Bluesound…apparently not.

  4. I swapped the coax connection: No improvement

  5. I made sure all the cabling going into and out of the DS Preamp and the DSJ were solid: No improvement

Reminder: Using our Oppo with optical connection: Runs fine

Jamesh,

I’m also connected to Scott.

I successfully updated to Sunlight earlier
Checked all the connections
Replaced the coax

Most importantly…I swapped in my old Cambridge streamer…sound lasted for barely a beat

It does not appear that the streamers are the problem. I used my Oppo to play a cd without a problem (optical connection)

John

I’d be pretty shocked if Sunlight killed the COAX input. Not impossible but my guess is something else is going on here. What happens if you roll back to something like Windom?

Jamesh,

Thanks for getting back to me. The bizarre part is that with all the work of downloading the Sunlight onto a USB drive, inserting into the DSJ, turning the power off/on: It looks like Windom is running. Do I need to do something with the Sunlight files before I move them to a USB drive? Such as: expanding?

John

Might there be something with the Bridge?

As it turns out…I thought I had updated to Sunlight earlier, but was still using Windom. The same problems were there with Windom as with Sunlight. The only consistent factor is when I initially and unsuccessfully tried to upgrade to Sunlight, the problems started

Thanks

John

I think there is a lot of confusion here. I’m going to migrate this to email.

James,

Here you go……

It all started when I attempted my first upgrade to Sunlight. That was funky including getting no sound at all until I flipped the power switch again.
The sound now included dropouts and noise when I streamed from our Bluesound Vault
I later noted that Windom was still the software that was running (So no upgrade to Sunlight)

I connected my older Cambridge Streamer…Sound lasted barely a beat and disappeared (I was hoping the problem was with the Bluesound…apparently not.
I reconnected the Bluesound Vault which continued to display the dropouts/noise
I swapped the coax connection just in case this was the issu: No improvement

Following communication with you all at PSA…

  1. I was able to update to Sunlight today
  2. I connected first the Bluesound Vault which continued to display the dropouts
  3. I connected my older Cambridge Streamer…Sound lasted barely a beat and disappeared (I was hoping the problem was with the Bluesound…apparently not.
  4. I made sure all the cabling going into and out of the DS Preamp and the DSJ were solid: No improvement
  5. I used our Oppo with optical connection: Runs/sounds fine

Next steps?

Thanks

John

I’m also struggling with the click noise when format changes, especially from PCM to DSD, and rate change within DSD. I confirmed it happens with I2S and Bridge II inputs.
Very annoying.
I hope PS Audio will fix the issue. But I’m afraid that continues to be my hope and won’t be fulfilled.

@jamesh Uh…I just had Morris do an RMA for my COAX S/PDIF no longer working. I turned the DSSr. off. Drove it over to a friends place cause he wanted to hear what the fuss was all about (he was amazed - SACD’s/DSD’s via I2S HMDI inputs). And we never used the COAX at all. Came home, reconnected everything and BAM ! no more RCA COAX. Swapped cables and tried other COAX devices.

BTW, the COAX input feeds from my Bluesound Node 2i and the AES/EBU feeds from my Sony UBP-X1000ES’s COAX Out. For now, I disconnected the RCA and just use the AES/EBU input for the Bluesound.

Also like had happened before back in January, the DSSr. boots up for 10s then a relay kicks in and then it reboots again but fully this time. But no RCA COAX. Tried leaving the unit unpowered with all inputs disconnected overnite with no luck the next day.

All other inputs are trouble free.

It sounds like it may need to come in and be looked at. You mentioned you were in touch with Scott S? He’ll be able to set you up with an RMA.

Damn, that’s a bummer Raj. Hopefully our team is able to get it up and running quickly!

Yep

Waiting to hear from Scott

Thanks for following up

@jamesh I’m hosting a DIY even next Wednesday for the AZAVClub and will use the DAC there for DSD primarily. For CD/PCM files, I’ll use the AES/EBU input with a Neutrik 75/100 Balun that does the job perfectly (you can never have too many inputs…LOL.

I’ll send it back to PS Audio after the event.

Thanks James,
Joe

A post was merged into an existing topic: Sunlight: Sound Impressions

l try going back, and then forward again. Thanks.

Hi.
I have been using sunligt for about 3 weeks now.
It sounds amazing but today I noticed that the volume dropped from 89 to 50 during my listening session. It is when I use variable output. But this drop down happens all the time now.

Have I done something to settings or what is the case here?

If you don’t set fixed volume, the volume resets each time you go into/out of standby mode. I use fixed volume at 92 based on Ted’s suggestions and to avoid having to change the volume back to 92 every day. I use my integrated amp to control the volume in my system.

I’d suggest there is little need to use the standby mode: I always use the display dim button.

DSD Sr won’t play dsd64 files after loading Sunlight. Has anyone experienced this?
