Sunlight: Installation and Technical Issues

Reloaded Sunlight after removing all connections to the unit. Works now.

For some reason the updates go better on all of the PSA equipment if all of the inputs are disconnected or at least fully powered off. It also gives them a new fresh connection when plugging them back in.

I’ve never (going back to release 1.2.1) had a problem with the new OS loads but my connectivity to the DS DAC has been limited. Via Ethernet to the Bridge or via coax from my Oppo or Toslink from my set-top-box. That having been said, album art has always been quirky and seems more so with Sunlight. The last isn’t a complaint just an oberservation.

My DSDAC (has Sunlight) is on variable volume and it won’t change on standby on/off. Volume change back to 25 only when main (back) power on/off.
As far as I know, standby on PSA gears only cutoff the input/output, internal circuit is always on. Not sure how this will impact the volume setting.
@Henrik_Jensen, I wonder maybe a “reboot” (I.e. main power off from the back and turn back on minutes later) will fix the changing volume during the listening session. Or, maybe, in my wild imagination, just the remote needs battery.

Edit. My DSDAC does not have bridge. (just don’t want to mix network stuff into it.)
Maybe volume goes down to 50 is what being described below by

I always leave the displays off on all of the PSA gear so album artwork isn’t an issue with me

You must have a nicely resolving system. I only occasionally hear the difference and I have to be really paying attention.

I don’t think I can hear any difference either. I just like the simpler look of the screens being off unless needed.

Gotcha. I know that some members of the forum have a clear preference for them off because the lower noise is audible to them. Me? Not so much.

When my Bridge lost its internet connection occasionally, the volume always goes to 50. I do not know if anyone else experienced this? This happened before Sunlight. Now I use fixed volume at 92 only.

For Mac users, dragging and dropping the folder from download into SD card did not work for me. It was necessary to move each item individually. Just wanted to share in case someone was stuck on this like me. Also Macs will default to an Apple format, so make sure that you select the “fat” choice when erasing/formatting your SD card.
So far this has been my only issue. Happy listening…

I dont think I have “audiophile ears”. I dont seem to be able to pick out a lot of the nuances that others discuss. But with that said I really like the way my system sounds right now.

50 is the default that we programmed in just so in case if something went wonky you wouldn’t have a loud noise.

Thanks Paul, that makes sense. Will this safety feature carry on to DS MK II? I am looking forward for the next new DAC even though mine is only 6 months old. It seems it will be a big step up from other threads here.

My update install went seamlessly, as usual. But I too have had an issue with the volume dropping. However in my case, it is after I have set the digital out to 100 and then happens suddenly while the music is playing. It will play normally then drop to 50 mid song. I turn it back to 100 and it may stay, or may drop again later. I haven’t tried switching to fixed output, but I will probably go ahead and do that because I use the BHK Preamp for volume now anyway.

but, like some here, I would like to revert to Windom, at least for a little while, for comparison. I’ve noticed that the unpacked Windom firmware only has two files: .DS_Store and .DSD Windom.

Are these the only files I have to copy to my SD card? (For macOs.)

I just downloaded the Windom Mac image file and here is what it contains:

Got it! Thanks, Speed.

@tedsmith Can’t install it. I have done almost everything : changing cards, formating them, cleaning them, the PS button never blinked and I am stuck with Snowmass

No disrespect but you’re inserting the SD card upside down so that the contacts are facing up?

Nope, it’s how the slot is designed. You have to insert the card with connectors / contacts facing up.
