Or worse, just after the warranty expires
I have a four year old Sony OLED with zero issues.
I read that Sony is ditching OLED in favor of Mini-led. No sure if this is fact or fiction? If true it would be sad. This might only be for their flagship televisions.

Another alternative is a JVC DLA-NZ7.
That’s right. ![]()
I wouldn’t sell my Sony stock just yet. ![]()
The dialogue about led vs. oled makes me quiver. So far, my 14-year-old Pioneer Elite plasma is still kicking. Hate to face the music of buying a new set.
The lower power draw of LED or OLED is attractive especially for summer heat and power the Plasma sucks from my P20. But resistant to the switch despite that.
I would also add that the Plasma is quite noisy when the images become white.
If the entire panel is white, consumption is at the same as the noise level of the panel.
In winter, however, I’m happy to have a heater always on (the screen)… ![]()
I’m feel confident that Sony wouldn’t replace OLED with a lack luster component. They may of slipped a bit in the audio world but they still have it in the video realm!
The SP3 regenerator works wonders with my source components. Offers lightning protection too!
I felt the same way. But I passed my Pioneer Kuro Elite to my daughter and switched to a Sony OLED. The Sony is equipped with processing that allows one to make a horribly weird image. Turning it off is the secret.
My fear was how motion would change from the plasma to the OLED. If it did change I have either adjusted to it or it isn’t a problem. 4K seems nice.
But I fully understand why you stay with the Plasma. I just want to hint that there are other solutions that don’t involve angst.
I too have a Sony OLED TV and love the picture. I used to have a Pioneer Elite plasma that was excellent but prefer the OLED.
FWIW, I have an LG OLED and a Sony OLED. My daughter got the Pioneer Elite. No complaints with OLED.
Daughters seem to be doing very well amongst us former Kuro owners.
Be a sad day when my last generation Panasonic VT Plasma gives up. Calibrated by Chad B and it has been flawless for 11 years. We have a Sony OLED and LG OLED in the house, always choose the plasma for serious movie watching. OLED looks great and gives you the oooo and ahhh moments, but something about the plasma is just so natural and true to life. OLED’s look almost to good and sharp. I’m not seeing that sharpness and and vibrant colors in real life. But to be fair I have not had the OLED’s calibrated.
Oh well, back to the plasma…
Were the plasmas 42 inch only? Kinda small by contemporary standards.
They were made in a lot of sizes. All the way up to 65". Panasonic even made a 103". Pioneer Kuro largest size was a 60". Never would have survived as long as they did at 42" max size.
Candy is dandy (plasma), but liquor is quicker (OLED).
