The Art of HiFi - Volume 01: Bass

I am really enjoying the art of hifi volume 01 :bass. The recording quality is amazing. My favorite track is Rocky Mountain Rain. The drumming is incredible. Is Michael Wooten related to Victor ? One of my good buddies many years ago was a drummer. He had just gotten a a double E degree and a good job offer. He was at a crossroads as far as a career choice. Pursue the music dream or be practical.Ultimately,he decided on the engineering career. A couple of his musical buddies went on to hit the rock and roll lottery. He also had a very successful career but he still occasionally wondersā€ what ifā€. When I played Rocky Mountain Rain for him he looked like Momma Cass listening to Janis Joplin at the Monterey Pop Festival with his jaw on his chin the entire time. Once the song ended the first words out of his mouth were ā€œ unbelievable who the hell was that? ā€œ

Recently listened to the album again, this time on my portable music player that can now play dsd256 files into Sennheiser 660S headphones thru the balanced headphone connector, and ā€œErase Meā€ sounds wonderful, just truly wonderful. The 1 minute excerpt of Passacaglia also sounds soooo good.

I absolutely agree! Include a booklet in the jewel case for this series. Tell me what I should hear in case I do not. And don’t use such teeny-tiny print that I still cannot read it even with my glasses. 10-point font is okay. Consider preparing one for the already issued Bass disc, and mailing it out to prior purchasers. Color not necessary. Raise the price to $29.50 if necessary.

Would an organ only disc be ever released, as its one of my favourite genres?

FYI; I have a new/sealed SACD copy for sale. I would prefer a trade for the ā€œGabriellaā€ SACD, but will sell my copy if needed.
PM me.

If we buy dsd256, can we download other sample rates as well? I’m curious what the differences are, but more importantly I am not sure if my system can do dsd256 reliably yet.

separate purchases

going out on a limb here, but differences among DSD choices hearable by few, if any, and only if they have top equipment (the $10,000+ DACs)

I would like a reliable comparison between DSD64, DSD 256, and even higher rates.

…let the challenge begin, will be instructive

Sure, this release presents the glory of bass. ā€œI like,ā€ says the bassist.

Are tracks 2 and 9, both with synthetic bass, supposed to be so massive?

The other tracks have robust bass, but these two are massive bass on steroids.

I don’t know this recording all that well, but I’ll say that IMO, these synthetic bass tones are a bane to contemporary pop music. Just because someone putting a track together in their bedroom has the equipment to produce an artificial 16Hz tone doesn’t mean they should.

No booklet on this one.

Wootens are not related but do know each and joke about being brothers.

Sorry for the delayed response (life is very busy), but thanks to OR for getting me a working copy to TAOHF Vol.1:BASS!

To date, one of my favorite Octave Record recordings! Well captured, clarity, realism and timbre are spot on and bass definition, depth, punch and dynamics are superb!!! :sunglasses:
