The IR 1 and 2 are there to help with the occasional problem we have had in the past with LG and Sharp televisions. Some of these brands fail to honor the rules with IR codes. When that happens, the MK2 remote can wind up turning on/off the television. Thus, if that is happening (usually on IR 1, you simply switch to IR2 and that solves the problem
DS Mk2 has an auto input option. Why would this new feature be needed, or how is it different from the auto input selection? Letās say Iāve been listening via the AirLens. Then I put a CD in my PST and hit play on the remote. The player will start and the PST input will automatically be selected (assuming I have auto input turned on). Is there some sonic reason to avoid using auto input?
I thought the same thing too. There will be an up coming purpose affecting those using the original PWT. The PWT requires the DAC to do the de-emphasis function for discs the use pre-emphasis. It will allow the i2s lead that is shared with another function on the Air lens to allow the transport to utilize the auto-de-emphasis function with the mk 2. The DMP and PST perform the de-emphasis before handing off the signal to the DAC. It will not affect them.
Paul, The manual needs to be update, corrected and cleaned up. What is Transport input, what is shell lift ( is the shell the metal box )? The Menu section needs the most work. I understand that manuals are low priority, but the Mk2 manual really needs work.
Thanks, Tony. Weāll get on it.
I use auto input select almost exclusively. With it I almost donāt need the Mk II remote.
There are a few sources which send out stuff every once in a while (for various reasons) which could steal focus, cause pauses or apparent muting in your sound.
I only use I2S input number one.
Does it matter at all whether I use Auto Input or not as far as sound quality?
Thereās no difference in sound quality using auto input select. The auto input select code is running all of the time, the option only controls whether the answer is connected to the actual input select.
Paul, pls include the Firmware menu cheat sheet info
Thanks Paul.
Good to know (LG) owner.
Clean your room.
I stopped over at PSA for a tour.
You have some of the nicest people there.
Thanks to all!
@Dirk, Iām considering buying the Mk2 DS, I bought my Mk1 from you! Really happy with the Mk 1 DS! How would you describe the difference between them ? Is Mk 2 worth the outlay? Factoring in the UK price and that Iām not nearly as well-heeled as you
The DS-2 DAC with Massive operating system is a significant advance on the already excellent DS-1.
For the most part I play CD & SACD recordings, with the DS-2 they are more vibrant, intricate and natural sound that you can almost reach out and touch. As a result, music becomes more immersive, engaging and propulsive. Rather than sounding like great hi-fi, DS-2 with Massive - the DACās myriad improvements happen at a deeper, musical level ā where the innate emotion of the players is revealed in all its glory.
āNaturalā⦠The DS-2 has a naturalness thatās lovely to listen to - what ever the format - I find myself immersed in the musical action rather than listening to the actual recording itself. I am more interested in the music than the means.
As I hear it, the wonderful thing about this DS-2 / Massive DAC, then, is that itās so music-agnostic. It just opens up the recorded acoustic of whateverās being played and lets whatever is there flourish. Rhythmically and dynamically, itās impossible to criticise. Iād say this is absolutely at the top table in terms of letting the musicians express themselves and indeed enjoy themselves. The music just sounds so emotionally engaging that itās hard to think about anything else while oneās listening, as the listener I end up transfixed. Massive O/S is a significant advancement of the DS-2.
To answer your question, āāyesāā;- buy a DS-2 - ASAP.!!
Your description summarizes nicely what I heard when auditioning the MSB Premier DAC recently. A certain ease and naturalness in presentation, taking those parameters considerably beyond that of the DSD Mk II, but at a price unfortunately.
The review of the MK2 is out on TAS. It is now one of AHCās reference DACās. As good as the MK1 is, the MK2 is conciderably better. Now is a good time to trade in your MK1 as the $3500 credit will end soon. I wonder what AHC whould think after he put in the Massive update, as he is so crazy about the DAC before the update.
I loaded mine today. Incredible differenceā¦Voices so much more out front. Pitch black backgrounds.
I also got my TAS with the review of the MK2. If the reviewer loved the MK2 without the Massive upgradeā¦I would love to know his opinion with it.
The MK2 is stupid good. So glad I bought one.
You need to hear the mk 2 with Massive final. You could have saved yourself allot of money.
Could you explain ? Not sure what your saying.
My files arrived and were easily installed. Sound is interestingly improved with a bit more body to the imaging and a bit more perceived bass. Which is welcome. I know there will be a few changes in the next few days. . . looking forward to the listening.
Man my timing is awesome, just traded my mk1 for a mk2 and its due here thursday. If it can make it thru all the snow in TN Hope so
Lee
Win Winā¦Your getting 2 to 1 on your money for your trade in. And your getting an end game DAC.
I loved my MK 1, but the MK2 with the Massive Firmware is crazy good.
Congrats.
